| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 16, 2008 Appears a near black with dark brown edges. The tan head slowly fades into a a small cap that never goes away. Scattered streaks of lacing are left around the glass. It’s certainly a lovely looking beer.
Smell is of Belgian yeast esters with figs, ripe plums, and prunes with the obvious nod to chocolate malt, along with cracked grain, rich Belgian chocolate, dusty Topps bubble gum, caramel, and vanilla.
Taste echoes the aroma with bitter cocoa, dark fruit, and black grapes standing out with the yeasty profile.
Mouthfeel is super creamy and smooth with semi-sweetness up front and bitter cocoa and light hops clinging on till the finish.
This is a pretty nice brew. It’s about as good as it could get for a Belgian Stout with cocoa. I can’t really think of how to make this one much better, which is a good sign.

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 12, 2010 Draught at the Red. Close to black dark brown color with a creamy beige head. The aroma has a fruity yeast character with an apparent pear quality and some bubblegum, with some rich chocolate as well. The flavor has the same fruity yeast character with light spice and dark chocolate syrup poured all over it. Medium bodied with ample, tight carbonation. I dig the combo of pear, bubblegum and dark chocolate. Sweetness is surprisingly restrained, lending a nice dryness and drinkability. BarZigKin (179), The Colony, Texas, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Mar 7, 2010 750ml split with DarkBeerChick. Pours a near opaque body topped with a bit of tan, sticky head that leaves some nice lacing. Smells of milk chocolate, some alcohol and fresh coffee. Tastes of fresh coffee, bittersweet chocolate, light sweetness, some alcohol and a pleasant coffee bitterness. Thin to medium mouthfeel with fine carbonation. More coffee than chocolate indulgence. Very good either way. DarkSong (125), Dacula, Georgia, USA

It has a very mild chocolate and malt aroma. It has a dark chocolate taste with moderate hop bitterness along with hints of espresso and a roasted flavor. I really enjoyed this beer and would buy it again. robertjm (447), El Cerrito, California, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Feb 26, 2010 2007 vintage - Pours nice thick tan head with micro-sized bubbles. Dark brown body which doesn’t let light through. Slight wet cardboard aroma. Full mouthfeel. No real bitterness. Mostly of bittersweet chocolate and chocolate malts. Leaves lots of lace on the side of the glass. No sediment left in bottom of bottle. Very pleasant and I’d definately buy this again! RHeastings (531), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 26, 2010 Enjoyed on tap in a tulip glass. The beer pours a deep brown color, with a dense and thick light brown head. The nose gives the beer away as having been fermented with a derivative of Leffe’s Belgian blonde yeast. Chocolate notes appear as the sample warms, but remain subtle, at most. Not unpleasing, but not what one would expect. The palate again carries the esters one would expect in a Belgian blonde, slight tropical fruits, slight Munich malt, slight banana. Chocolate is difficult, if not impossible, to detect on the tongue. Overall, a nicely brewed Belgian beer, but it certainly doesn’t live up to its name, nor to the pedigree of Ommegang. kuphish (202), Bloomington, Indiana, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 14/20 | Feb 26, 2010 750ml bottle. Pours an opaque black body. Big, rocky-meringue, light brown head. Good lacing. Chocolate, roast and coffee are all present in the nose. Big dark chocolate flavor accompanied by some light, frothy milk chocolate. Touch of dark roast and light ash, but overall a rounded flavor profile. Medium bodied with silky and soft carbonation. Touch of warming alcohol. Lingering bitterness - hops, but mainly dark grain bitterness. Overall very good, refined and balanced. obguthr (1220), Poquoson, Virginia, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Feb 25, 2010 Faint yeasty nose with hints of raisins. Opaque black, thick firm tan head. Bitter dark chocolate swiftly turning to sour charcoal at midpalate and returning to a subdued nutella finish. Medium body. Fair complexity and good balance. Not as spectacular as its limited availablily implies. Cellar temp is a must to bring out the full complexity. 13mikey (242), New Hope, Minnesota, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 22, 2010 750 ml bottle from Surdyk’s. Chocolate color pour, tan head, fair amount of chunks and "floaties". Aroma and flavor are not typical chocolate notes, you can really tell it’s made with the coco powder. Finish is bit hoppy, leaving behind a dark/bitter chocolate flavor.
