Commercial Description:
Made in the tradition of artisan brewers, Sans Culottes is a blonde beer sur lie. Probably the best bière de garde for the uninitiated to start with. Packed in a 75 cls bottle with a wired-down cork, Sans Culottes sports a brilliantly eye-catching label showing a revolutionary soldier proudly wearing his pantalons, having wisely forsaken his culottes for the coming struggle.

Golden with an initially large white head of foam. Aromas are sweet, honey malts with some soft citrus notes and yeast - has something of a Belgian Wheat about it. Flavours are sweet honey and lemon with grain and wheat. Not much going on in the finish. Not the most complex of beers but would make a good refresher on a summers day.

Bottle: Pours a nice gold orange color with a full white head. The nose is yeasty with a light earthy malt note and some hay and toasty malt. Ripe grape and light hops in the flavor with a pleasing citrus note, earthy body and a bright yeasty citrus note in the tail. Very nice BdG with a chewy body and lots of drinkability. Yum!

Bottled. A sulphorous malty straw-like smell to this copper coloured beer. A very bitter grassy taste with lots of malt also. Quite disappointing.

Golden ale with a thin white head. Light herbal malt with caramel notes. In mouth, a sweet malt with light buttery notes, a bit on the cloying side. Mondial 2006. 6-3-6-3-10

A hazy blonde beer with a thin white head. Aroma of wilde herbs, dandelion and wood bark. In mouth, a clean crisp malt with a light sweetness, notes of cardboard, bottle was 1 yr old at time of tasting on April 2007. 8-3-7-3-12

Another great beer from Degarth. This one pours turbid dark straw with 2-finger off-white head. Aroma of floral hopcitrus, citrus fruit, including orange zest and tangerine, and some coriander notes. The flavor is on the dry and floral and spicy side, with notes of citrus, orange zest, and some finishing funky yeast esters. Very good.

Bottle. Creamy white good mostly lasting head. Yellow colour. Moderate malty and hoppy aroma. Slightly smoked! Light sweet moderate bitter flavor. Smoke and almond notes. Average moderate bitter finish. Oily palate. Strange but nice.

750 ml bottle. BB 01.12.07 Aromas of citrus, spice and light stone fruit. Hazy orange amber color with a decent white head that didn’t really stick. Medium body with mild, but prickly, carbonation. The flavor is mildly sour, slightly citric, lightly spicy, and something earthy or even tobacco in a small way. Finishes rather dry with not much bitter, just fruit and spice. Very mild ending. Very intriguing and pleasant drink. Could be called clean and crisp (by me anyway).

Fresh bottle (just arrived in Colorado), best before Dec 2007. Head is initially large, frothy, white, mostly lasting. Body is hazy dark yellow. Aroma is moderately hoppy (honeysuckle flowers, herbs), moderately malty (toasted bread, cookie), lightly yeasty (cobwebs). Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, velvety texture, lively carbonation. You’ll probably think of a Czech pils while you’re sniffing this...I sure did. Lots of malt and hops (a ton o’ Hallertauer) in the nose...not a lot otherwise, but very juicy and pleasant.
