Commercial Description:
Belgian Red is a tapestry of flavor. This beer is brewed with whole Montmorency Cherries, Wisconsin farmed wheat and Belgian roasted barleys, lagered in oak tanks and balanced by Hallertau hops we aged in our brewery one full year. Over a pound of Door County Cherries in every bottle makes this beer uniquely “Wisconsin.” So unique, in fact, that we applied for a patent. Expect this beer to be ruby red, with a medium body that is highly carbonated and intense with cherry flavor and bouquet.

Poured from 750ml bottle into a taster-sized nonic and shared with my girlfriend. A - A pretty straight forward red color, off-white fizzy head, some lacing. S - Cherries, cherries, and cherries. Some sweet, some tart. A small hint of a beer, but not really, more like a fruit drink. T - Sweet cherries up front and a nice tartness on the finish. Some creamy flavors, very good. I really love the cherry flavors and it’s better then I would have expected with this beer. M - Rich and smooth, like yogurt or sorbet, medium in body. Very good, and perfectly constructed for this type of beer. D - Split this with my girlfriend but probably could have easily split this three ways. We finished it easily, but my craving for this type of beer has been satisfied for a while.

Bottle shared with matt7215, casual saturday afternoon tasting, Matt’s bottle, big thanks. Pours a hazy blood ruby red with a tiny pink surface film. Absolutely stunning-looking when held up to light. The aroma is a punch in the nose of cherries, but also some cinnamon and acidity. Very nice aroma on this one. The flavour is a punch in the mouth with cherries. Super-d-duper cherry tart acidic mouth-feel, with some woody dryness. Thick cherry juice feel. I didn’t think this one was too sweet, though that may have been because I was lost in a sea of cherry tarts. Extremely impressive, this stuff was the best cherry flavoured beer I’ve ever had. Thanks again for the share Matt.

Very unique and incredibly sweet. Rich cherry and almost cough syrupy. Hints of bubblegum.

Bottle. Pours a mostly clear, deep ruby red body with a good amount of rising carbonation. Thin, pinkish-beige colored head that dissipates quickly and leaves a light lacing. Aroma is sweet, rich cherries with a light tartness. Some other overripe fruits and oak. Flavor is similar. Lots of rich, sweet cherries with a light, tolerable tartness. A touch of oak, overripe fruits, a bit of cherry pie syrup. Finishes easy, smooth, and somewhat crisp with a hint of cloying sweetness and acidity. Medium length aftertaste after a medium, smooth body with a soft, fizzy carbonation. Overall, a nice fruit beer. Fairly sweet and cherry dominated while not being too sour. Maybe a bit one dimensional, but easy drinking and tasty, especially at only 5.1%.

Woodshop 5.0. Sucrets! I thought I’d had this before, because I remembered a brew with the distinct Sucrets nose, but this clearly wasn’t it. Raspberry and sucrets on the nose. Tastes like a cherry blossom festival. Fruity goodness abounds. Fun beer.

Ruby red with a pink quite lasting head. The aroma is very intense of sweet cherries. The same for taste. Very nice but definitely lacks complexity. Courtesy of Mr. Mosher.

Bottle brought in by a customer, sampled at work. Wow!!! Best fruit beer I have ever had. This very cherry beer has a wonderful bouquet that lets you know exactly what you have in store for you. Cherry taste that stays with you for quite a while, so so smooth and even creamy with a great finish that never becomes cloying. The biggest reason I give this such a high score is the finish. It never even hints at that "rotten" sweetness that seems to pervade many of the lesser fruit beers. If you refuse to even give fruit beers a try, try this one anyway. Even if its just for the rating, I don’t think you’ll find a better one to try!
