The aroma is very tense of alcohol, oak and whisky. The flavor is full of whiskey notes, not nearly as balanced as their grain beer. It’s a very complex taste however full of burned notes and in my opinion too burned compared to the grain. It’s still a very nice imperial stout!

Mar 2, 2010 Bottle. Imperial Stout rating #100. Pitch black with a creamy beige head. Sweet caramel, vanilla, oak, roasted malt, coffee added sugar and chocolate in aroma. Lots of stuff going on. Soft and smooth body. Low carbonation. The flavour is oak, vanilla, whisky, caramel, chocolate and warming alcohol. Very nice. Light peaty roasty finish.

Jan 23, 2010 Bottle. Bourbony vanilla and sugar, dark black pour with a little bit of carbonation. Flavor is strong chocolate, whiskey, vanilla, oak, and finished dry and boozy. Good, but not $12 a bottle good.

Jan 16, 2010 From notes. Black/dark brown, small tan cap. Roasty, burnt malt, dark chocolate, whole coffee, toast/biscuit, dry wood, cookie, light vanilla, hints of speyside scotch and scotch alcohol. Medium/full body, just smoother than balanced, too easy to drink. Excellent.

Appearance : dark brown with rocky top. Beige tint. 3+
Nose: Rich, clean woody feel , slightly alcoholic . Clean strong nose. 8 -
Flavor/Palate : Soft , brown malts with some alcohol. Hints of cask paired with brown malts. Oak ending. Fine .

Dec 28, 2009 Bottle shared with Radek. Pours black with whit soapy head. Medium mouthfeel. Aroma are there, ther is anise on the stout. So yes it is an above average beer all around.

Dec 3, 2009 Cask at Nicholson’s in Cincinnati. Pours black with a very small tan head that leaves only a small rim of bubbles around the inside of the glass. Snifter. The barrel aging is nice here, and the Scotch barrel appears to be more gentle than a bourbon barrel. Aroma of vanilla, oak, dark chocolate, molasses, Scotch, and dark fruit. Flavor of molasses, chocolate malt, dark fruits, nuts, oak, vanilla, and Scotch to warm it. Full bodied. Really nice creamy mouthfeel, silky smooth- probably even more so because of the cask. Impressive restraint for a barrel-aged beer, but there’s still plenty to love about this one.

Nov 28, 2009 Oh my. Thin tan head that settles out quickly, lace is fair. Almost black. Nose is soft with whisky and smokey wood. Body is medium, slick and oily. Whiskey notes dominate with the stout flavors playing second,third and fourth fiddle, some roast coming through, light chocolate as well. Nice whisky flavors though. Keeps ya interested. Roasty, smokey finish, lightly sweet and interesting, woodsy. Makes ya wanna be by a campfire, yup. Eat meat! Bottle procured @statelineliquors.

Nov 28, 2009 Near black, thin tan head, no lacing.
Aroma is sweet, lots of chocolate, light alcohol, some roast.
Flavour is fairly hot, light chocolate roast, pretty sweet.
Warm mouthfeel, light body, medium carbonation.
Finishes a little thin, pretty hot.
Hot and thin, uneventful.
