Commercial Description:
This Belgian Royal Stout was brewed as a tribute to one of America’s best pubs. Jennifer and Chris Lively who run the place may be proud of Ebenezer’s Pub. Not only do they have 35 beers on draught, most of these are hard to find Supreme Belgian Ales. Above that, they have one of the most extensive bottle-conditioned beer lists through different bottling dates we have ever seen. Not only can you drink almost any Belgian beer, the worlds best brewery’s are represented. A lot of the guests talk about the American Kulminator, yet with that difference that the Belgian inspired food, is simply great. Black Albert was brewed and crafted with a 100% Belgian ingredients. Pours a blacker than black beer with an inch of dark tan head that lingers as it cascades into itself. Nice aroma of bitter-sweet chocolate, fresh torrified coffee beans, barley, candy sugar, complex fruits, and floral hops. At the front, there is spiced baker’s chocolate, fresh mocha, caramel like barley touches, and underlying hints of dried fruits which marries the back of your palate and features a Top, and well integrated but not overbearing hop flavour. The after-taste is well balanced and shows a panorama of extreme sensations like chocolate and coffee bitters, a plum cake richness that covers the palate, and a crisp impression of hop bitters that brings elegance and freshness into this massive brew. LOT: A-4-BB. It was expensive to get. €4,29. Only evident when it was exported from Belgium to the States to the Netherlands. It poured a thick dark liquid with a sturdy murky beige brown head. Sensation starts with sour and wringing bitters. Getting used to these a fine palate of bitters and off-sweetness appears. Coffee, chocolate and liquorice on a fruity scent. Alcohol is present but not on the forefront of tastes. Struise Brouwers made a real good English beer without losing their local preferences. And that is what I like.

My 800th rating. 11.2 oz. bottle from shawnm213- thanks again, Shawn! Pours almost completely opaque black with a small brown head that leaves some light uneven lacing. Aroma of chocolate, molasses, roasted malts, dark fruits (plum, raisin, fig), licorice, burnt sugar, and mocha. Flavor continues with rich dark chocolate, molasses, licorice, mocha, roasted malts, the same dark fruits as above, yeast, dirt, and some bitterness from hops. There’s something just a little funky in there, a flavor that shows up in a lot of Belgians I’ve had. Full-bodied, with light carbonation and an oily smooth mouthfeel. Roasty, fruity, sweet, and slightly bitter finish. Very good beer.

Straight from the tank before the bottle fermentation, thanks to Carlo’s hospitality. First stout I ever tasted. Dense and oily body with a hint of hoppy bitterness, but the dominant aroma is the roasted malts, coffee and some dark chocolate. Outstanding introduction to the world of Stouts!

Bottle. Pours jet black with no light coming through. Smallish tan coloured head. Quite oily with plenty of lacing. Aromas of dark malt and choclate and dark fruit. Plenty of hops there also. Great aroma and very complex. Flavours are sweet and bitter at the same time. Quite bitter on the finish. Very velvety and smooth. Great beer.

Rich woody aroma of maple, tobacco, chocolate, walnut, and almond. It reminds me of an old wooden box in which my dad kept his pipe tobacco. Black, with a thick, firm, brown head, spellbinding cascading carbonation, nice lacing. It drinks like liquid chocolate wood, tobacco notes are ever present. Brief appearance of plum at midpalate. Wheat bread crust throughout. Coffee espresso finish. Outstanding mouthfeel and texture, alcohol not sensed. Superb balance. Flawless and an absolute delight. After over 1200 ratings, this gets my first perfect score.

Bottle from the Hopduvel beer warehouse in Ghent. I have had this on tap in the White Horse, London a couple of years back too. Black pour with a medium sized beige head. Aroma of coffee and chocolate. This is a BIG beer indeed. Tastes roasty, chocolatey, coffee, malty, dark fruit incredibly well balanced, smooth and complex. Needs to be sipped and savoured, precious stout indeed. Would love to get hold of this more easily.

another bottle from ryan, thank you! pous jet black with a small mocha head. aroma is quite inviting. lots of cocoa, vanilla, dark fruit, and some subtle licorice. flavor us super super roasty, with hnts of coffee, and some more cooca, with a great lingering savory bitter finish. Incredibly balanced, and the 13% is hidden impeccably well. Outstanding stout.

Bottle from Decanter, Milan. Drunk on the ferry with Slothez en route to Amsterdam. Jet black pour with a small tan head that decided to linger for the voyage. Chocolate, dark fruit and booze sodden aroma with plenty of sweet malt and spicy hop. Lush, silky mouthfeel. Complex flavour with so much in evidence. Dark Chocolate and dark fruits, Brown sugar, Molasses, Liquorice, Yeast. Class. A sublime balance to this that forces you to sit up and wonder at the skill that went into sculpting this. You’d never has this pinned as a 13%er. A definite world beater.

330ml bottle, pitch black color, with a tan-colored head, leaving some belgian laces, but at the opening an other gushing experience, yeasty, roasted, chocolate, black malt nose, with a strong molasses, chocolatey accent, with some alcoholic effluvia, a mild licorice, black coffee note, with some hints of dark dried fruit in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a warmth, yeasty, sweet molasses, dark candi sugar character, with some chocoalte, dark, roasted, toasted malt flavours, with some chocolate praline, coated chocolate raisin, burnt dark fruit, black coffee accents, with an anise, light licorice, fennel spiciness, leading towards a warming molasses, chocolatey, mild roasty bitterness finish.
