Pours a dark brown with ruby highlights and fluffy tan head. Taste is toasted malt, some chocolate, and a little smoke. Good beer just not quite as good as Celebrator. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 7, 2010 Pours a huge 2 finger beige head. Body is dark brown in color, lots of bubbles rising throughout. Head retention and lacing are above average
Aroma is of roasted malt and dried prunes. Hops and alcohol aren’t present.
Taste is of roasted malts and lots of dried fruit. Has that unique dopplebock flavor definitely in there. Hops arent detected and alcohol is faint. After taste is of candied sugar and simple syrup
Mouthfeel is good. Carbonation is on the light side. Head contributes a little to this medium bodied beer.
Drinkability is good. For over 7 percent its almost sessionable. It’s just a little on the bland side. It might be old since it traveled a long way to get to me and theres no dating on the bottle. Worth the price since its rather cheap but wouldnt be my first choice BrewingFan (122), Texas, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 5, 2010 Malty smoked wood aroma with a doughy yeast kick. Pours a very dark ruby red, with a nice head, slightly tinted chocolate. Very smooth, sweet palate and a nice kick of smokeyness. Malt dominates this beer with a unique chocolate, smokey taste. Good beer that probably pairs with food better than by itself. davidm (266), Melbourne, Australia
| 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Feb 5, 2010 Bottle 500ml. Great beer, like a fine wine. Aromas of burnt caramel, toffee, alcohol, and butter. Taste is sweet, with subtle bitter notes, and long lasting. Palate is syrupy and full-bodied. Dark brown, with a thin frothy head. jbye4334 (790), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 22, 2010 Pours super dark brown with beautiful garnet hues. The head is creamy beige in color, beginning around the size of a finger, and quickly dissipating to a veneer/ring. The aroma is beautifully malt accentuated- roasted barley, raisin, plum, fig, date, chocolate, and some subtle notes of smoke. Vinous booze also abounds. The flavor is a massively sweet concoction of dark fruit, chocolate, and dark sugar. Cocoa nib, milk chocolate, brown sugar, plum, roasted barley, and further smoke notes. The palate is quite full, with a caressing mouthfeel, and low to medium effervescence. The finish is dryish- both from booze and a roast induced chalky feel. Damn fine... craftycarl21 (630), South Hero, Vermont, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 22, 2010 Pours a dark garnet/ruby with a light beige head that dissipates fairly quickly. Aroma holds massive quantities of fig, plum, raisin, chocolate, brown sugar, red wine, caramel, and some nice smoky undertones; really nice sweetness on the nose overall. Flavor is chocolate galore, along with more of the great dark malt sweetness, including molasses and vanilla extract. Palate is medium bodied, but with an intriguingly high amount of dryness of the finish that would presumably come from the alcohol and roast. Really nice brew overall; doesn’t quite catch Celebrator, but a damn good doppelbock. TheGrandMaster (1899), Auckland, New Zealand
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Jan 19, 2010 Bottle (in NZ). Pours a dark cola-brown with a brown foamy head. Toasted malt nose with caramel and chocolate. Deliciously smooth malty palate, drinks very easily for 7.4%. The flavours are a little understated at first, but really come through later in the swallow. A mix of milk and dark chocolate and a little bit smokey. Would happily drink a lot of this.
