Commercial Description:
This beer was brewed in celebration of the 135th Anniversary of Schell's several years ago. It was so popular, we re-introduced it under the name German Pale Ale.
Pale Ale is really a hybrid—the best characteristics of an India Pale Ale's English malts and hops, combined with a German Alt yeast. It is medium in color, with a pronounced bitterness and a pleasant flowery hop aroma. Schell's is the only brewery that produces this particular beer style.
Ingredients: Pale 2 Row, Baird’s Carastan, Baird’s Munich, and Cara Pilsner malts, Chinook, Cascade, and Kent Golding hops.

Doesn’t taste as malty as it smells, which I consider a good thing. Excellent balance between aromatic and bitter hops. I agree with the others who say it’s nearly an IPA. One of my favorite three Schell brews, the other two being Maifest and Schmaltz’s Alt (notice a pattern there? :) No reasonable pale ale lover should be disappointed with this one.

Light copper color with a thin off white head. Mild hoppy aroma. Flavor has a slightly sweet undertone and a nice balance but the hops take over for a dry and bitter finish.

Pretty golden pour with very robust white fluffy head. Fairly strong floral hop nose. Flavors are sweet initial caramel/toffe malt, floral, citrus hopping, but followed by a weird moldy aftertaste, touch of metal, which comes and goes. When it wasn’t there, pretty decent beer...when present, it was off-putting.

12oz Bottle: Very nice aroma. Somewhat Scotch Ale-like. Nice caramel, toffee, and banana bread malt nose. Hops are dominated in the aroma by malt. Pours a cloudy copper color with so much sediment that I checked to see if it was bottle conditioned, small off-white head that disapeered quickly. Caramel and toffee up front with some citrus sneaking it’s way in the middle. Moderately flowery hopped finish.

12 oz. bottle. Shared at monthly Brew Club meeting. Pours a thin white head of medium duration, over a clear golden (SRM 7) body......nose is primarily light pine, with a bit of grass.....taste is rather sharp early, finishing with hop sharpness. Mouth feel was light and somewhat watery, carbonation medium. This is a different take on an American Pale Ale, and I did not much care for it. The hop sharpness was not there, and the malts were absent also. Could it have been a bad bottle??

Pours lightly hazy with a caramel color and a nice big head leaving sheets of lace. The aroma is caramel with floral notes, some citrus, some perfume, and a pretty nice malt character, pretty standard fare for an APA. The flavor is a little more unique with floral notes, herbal bitterness, some light biscuit and mild sweetness, plenty of fruitiness and some citrusy hops. Pretty good really!

Bottle. Somehow this was a gusher and blew up all over my counter even though it has been resting calmly in the fridge for 2 weeks.. Pour is light hazy copper with large white head. Aroma is pine hop, yeast, malt, and faint citrus. Flavor is a nice balance of hop and malt with a subtle yeast and citrus finish. Its not too shabby..

Pours bronze like amber color with vanishing white medium foam head. Has a weird citrus skin taste like an orange or grapefruit peel. Weird aftertaste that is almost like a plastic taste. Kind of confusing on the palate.

12oz bottle. Pours a clear amber color with one finger foamy white head that settles quickly but laces the glass. Aroma is sweet and floral with notes of citrus, grapefruit, light spice, honey, touch of caramel. Flavor is sweet and floral with similar notes of citrus, grapefruit, light pine, caramel. Generally light to medium body to a floral hop finish. Not bad.
