Commercial Description:
The Big Eddy Russian Imperial Stout was brewed at Leinenkugel’s tiny 10th street brewery in Milwaukee. This brew boasts a selection of 11 malts and grains balanced by three different and distinct hops. Dark and complex, with chocolate tones and notes of dark fruits, it is daring yet delicious. Travels well. Ages well.

On tap at Skyview’s last night. Pour was thick and left a nice frothy head that was slow to settle. Aroma was raisins and brown sugar. Flavor was excellent; malts, chocolate, vanilla and finished a little smoky with a warming alcohol feel. I really wish this one was more readily available; a really great beer.

Bottle thanks to pantanap. Not sure of the dating on this one. 0425831309 whatever that means. Black with a tan head. Nice nose of fruit, hops, burnt maltiness and just a bit alcohol. Some barrel aging? Taste is chocolate, very smooth, wine and port notes, alcohol evident but fits in well, chewy, sticky, and the taste holds all the way down. This is delicious.

Bottle thanks to Justin. Pours thick black and opaque. Not the kind of nose I was expecting. Lots of liquorice and molasses along with the typical roasted malts. The flavor reflects this with a distinct pungency. Very good and bitter-sweet. The high-alcohol notes are very noticeable. Very good.

From notes. Black/dark brown, brown edges, no head. Strong herbal/vegetal notes on the aroma, backed up by standard impy stout characters- bittersweet chocolate, roasted coffee, marshmallow/vanilla. Green notes subside in the flavor, turbinado and dark fruits join the party, green notes come back in the aftertaste. Full/medium body, low carbonation, viscous. Need to rerate.

Pours a pitch black color with a thin light brown head. Solid aroma of chocolate, rich roasted malt and fruity esters. Very good flavor of fruity esters, chocolate and luscious roasted malt. The body is light to medium with a liquorous texture and gentle carbonation. For a brewery owned by Miller Coors, this is surprisingly good.

I’ve been waiting awhile to get this beer, and a recent trade with daknole brought this one to my doorstep. A really nice imperial stout with lots of soy sauce notes in both the aroma and palate. Aroma has some meat marinade, light smoke, Fruit Loops, chocolate and anise. Flavor has some dark chocolate, soy sauce, brown sugar, woody, with a roasted malt finish. Really enjoyed this, but more than 1 bottle a week or so would be pushing it.

dark black pour with small tan head. heavy, dark molasses nose. taste is somewhat sweet with dark roast characters. slightly stringent aftertaste of alcohol is hidden a bit from the sweetness. an excellent imp stout. damn them, wisonsinites.

Bottle via trade thanks to badbeer on BA. Pours black and fairly thick with a lasting tan head. Aroma is roast, dark fruits, chocolate, and sherry. Flavor is roasted malt, chocolate, licorice, caramel, dark fruits, wood, and some sherry-like oxidative notes. Maybe a touch of soy sauce, but still it’s very good. Palate is smooth and full with soft carbonation.

Bottle, huge thanks to my secret santa! Black body, long lasting tan head. Nose is roasty malt, smoke, whiskey, dark honey, alcohol. Flavor is caramel, toffee, fruits, huge roast malt and nice bitterness. Alcohol is relatively restrained. Some burnt malt comes forward in the fruity, bittersweet finish.
