COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This legendary beer style has a richness of history to match its rich flavor. The beer was named in Einbeck, Germany during a city celebration where the strong dark beer was being served. It seems that a bock (the German word for goat) entered the grounds unseen. Soon after, one of the villagers was knocked to the ground. The bock was standing nearby and to this day it is still unclear whether it was the beer, or the bock, which leveled the villager.
Ingredients: Pale, Caramel, Cara Pils and Black malts, imported Hallertau and domestic Cascade hops.
Available January through April.

felsenpils (271) - Sacramento, California, USA - JUL 25, 2021
UPDATED: JUL 25, 2021 12 ounce can. Pours a clear dark amber with an off-white head. The aroma is clean and a bit malty. The flavor is malt-accented with the hop bitterness in the background, but the malt character is not strong enough for a German style Bockbier. Not bad, but they can do better.

commonmac (2289) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - FEB 4, 2021
UPDATED: FEB 4, 2021 16oz pint glass consumed on the patio with commonshawn, Highendtully, and blonderedhead. Amber/caramel with off white head. Nose is malty sweetness and cereal. Taste leams into the malty notes with a crisp, clean finish. Caramel and toffee qualities. Better than anticipated...good for the season.

UPDATED: MAY 15, 2020 Great to look at poured from a can, mounds of glass-clinging foam dissipating at just the right pace to reveal a deeply copper-colored body. Caramel and a whiff of freshly mowed grass in aroma. Just a classic German dark beer--nothing too exotic and generous on smooth, malty sweetness, and of a light weight that encourages having just one more. The can states it's now a 6.1% ABV.

UPDATED: JAN 18, 2020 (Thanks, Jim! 'Ozzy70') Can. A- Caramel, slightly nutty. A- Copper brown color, clear liquid, off white head. T- Caramel, fruitcake, honey, brown sugar. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, slightly sweet finish. O- Everything I've had from Schell has been equally as tasty as anything I've had in Germany. They just do classic very well.

flatearthman (179) - Woodbury, Minnesota, USA - JAN 28, 2019
UPDATED: JAN 28, 2019 Amber hue; head dissipated quickly, but the bar I was at doesn't always treat glassware properly; light mouthfeel with tingly carbonation; caramel malt taste with some bitterness; a somewhat quenching finish with bitter carryover. Decent German style representation

drpimento (7525) - La Crosse, Wisconsin, USA - AUG 1, 2018
UPDATED: AUG 1, 2018 Aroma is pretty straight forward dark malt. Flavors are much more interesting, dark malt roast a nice balance between bitter and sweet with decent carbonation. Body is a touch thin. Pretty good for a traditional bock.

1.5 to 2 oz. pour, on tap at Union 32 in Eagan, Minnesota. Consumed on 2-11-18. Clear amber to light brown to full copper. Moderate amount of beige head. Nice color. Looks good. Fresh, old-fashioned, malty, toffee aroma. Chocolate and toffee flavors. Pleasant flavor but not much substance to it. Soft in the palate. Not bad at all but definitely not the most substantive bock on the market. Predates the craftification of Schell's. 6.4.6.3.13=>3.2
