COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Doppel Bock style of beer ranges from the round to the profound to the enveloping. In describing Bock beer, the term "single" Bock is never used. Just Bock. Nor is a Double Bock twice as strong. "Double" Bock is a very unGerman exaggeration. "Super Bock" might be a bit more accurate. Clearly, when this style was first developed, the idea was to exceed what had previously been the strongest type of beer.
This was finally achieved by the monks of St. Francis of Paula, who probably first made beer as "liquid bread" to be consumed at the time of Lent.
Ingredients: Pale 2 Row, Munich, Caramel, Cara Pilsner and Black malts, domestic Mt. Hood, Cascade and Centennial hops.
Available January through March.

(bottle) Pours a dark copper color with a medium off-white head that quickly settles to a thin film. Aroma holds some light chocolate, prune, toasted brown bread, caramel, shades of smoked ham, and dried cherries. This gets even better the more it warms. Flavor possesses plenty of rich caramel, sweet roll, faintly citric hop(slight orange zest), toasty malt, and a faintly mineral, lager musty finish thatís coupled with residual toastiness. Mouthfeel is medium and carbonation is appropriate. The best of the herd in my opinion.

On draught.
Pours a mahogany color with a big head and good lacing on the glass.

Aroma is nutty, roasty, lightly earthy, & mild.

The flavor is roasty, mildly bitter, nutty and has a mild alcohol character. There is a lightly herbal flavor & the sweetness is well controlled. Itís got some caramel.

On tap. Lovely brown with beige head. Very bready. Roasted nuts and tons of caramel. Itís all good yet this comes across as mediocre overall. The malt presence is a bit too light.

Pours dark amber with little head in the glass. The malt is pleasant on the tongue but there is a hop presence lingering in the back. It gives the impression of astringency, maybe in combination with the dark malts, could be from the style of hops used. This one is not as malty complex as their bock, lacking some of the mouth feel I was expecting.

Such a great beer. Medium low to medium dark fruit/chocolate/sweetness in the malt; balanced well with a slightly fry finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Iíve been chasing this one down for eight years since it was last brewed in 2007. From a 12-oz bottle pours a semi-hazy golden amber colored brew with an average sized off-white head that slowly dissipates and leaves behind some spotty lacing. Aroma of Hawaiian bread, floral hops and a touch of toffee. Taste is medium to medium-full bodied with flavors of multi-grain malt, some alcohol presence, toffee and floral hops. Finish is semi-sweet, a little alcohol and toffee aftertaste. A little bit lighter than itís original release but still a solid doppelbock.

Pretty big boozy bite on the back end. Burnt oak, booze, caramel. Go Steelers.

Bottle from bock sampler at Lake Wine and Spirits Mpls. Pours a hearty looking caramel with thin off-white head. Nose is rich, bready caramel, some floral notes in the background. Taste is wonderful and memorable, Hearty rye-like bread flavors, a bit of sweetness, some bitterness and just a bit of heat near the end. Finishes with a very strong flavor: some toffee-like esters, a bit of roast and a bite of bitterness. This is a very good beer - an obviously regional take on the style grounded in our immigrant tradition - the kind of thing that sets MN apart from the scads of states producing IPAs, pale ales and belgian knock offs.

12oz bottle (Old Notes)-Pours coca cola like with a nice head. Aroma of sweetness, caramel, toffee, and malt. Taste of the same with fruits and sweetness coming thru. This medium to full bodied brew is well balanced and quite tasty.
