COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dark Hollow blends the miracle of two crafts--brewing and distillation--to create a work greater than the sum of its parts. An Imperial Stout has been aged in charred American oak bourbon barrels still dripping with uncut whiskey. For 100 days the young beer patiently breathes in and out of the wood, gaining complexity, character, and serious attitude. This ale is always bottle conditioned and can be enjoyed immediately upon its release from the brewery...or five years later, when you dust off the last vintage bottle from your cellar to share with good company. from label: Bourbon barrel aged imperial stout 23.5 plato OG

UPDATED: JAN 29, 2024 750 ml bottle from Rare Beer club. Pours black with tall, long lasting, creamy, brown head and nice lacing. Aroma is of roasted malt, toast, dark fruit, bourbon and vanilla. Body is full, creamy and slightly crisp. Taste is of spices, roasted malt, bourbon, vanilla, coffee, chocolate, brown sugar, dark fruit and herbal hops. Finish is long and spicy. Great IS.

UPDATED: DEC 2, 2022 Bottle from Market Street Wine drunk at the Christmas Tasting. Dark brown, almost no head. Nose is bourbon and a bit of roasted malt. Flavor is very full, a bit of soy and saltiness but not too much. Pretty smooth for a bourbon aged one, decent bitterness to back up the sugars, I like it but not as complex as some other bourbon aged stouts.

Fin (17269) - Innernzell, GERMANY - DEC 2, 2022
UPDATED: DEC 2, 2022 Bottle courtesy of Dave, tasted with the München Ratebeer Group Christmas Tasting Friday 2nd December 2022. Pours black peeling away to brown at the edges, with a filmy off white head, soft moutheel, very nice with bourbon and sweeteness, chocolate and caramel. Solid decent beer.

UPDATED: DEC 2, 2022 Bottle, huge thanks one51. Murky dark brown body, off-white head. Soft oaky aroma, definitely the bourbon leaving a trace, coconut. Lean, dry taste, light bourbon, char, caramel, indeed, some light vanilla, vague chocolate, ending bitterish. Good profile, ending bitter, lightly astringent.

SinH4 (15466) - Garching bei München, GERMANY - DEC 2, 2022
UPDATED: DEC 2, 2022 Bottle. Dark brown color with off-white tiny head. Aroma is charred wood, ash, roasty malts, soy sauce. Taste is the same. Oily mouthfeel, almost flat. Not the best Bourbon Barrel Impstout.

JaimeZX (59) - - NOV 19, 2021
UPDATED: NOV 19, 2021 Based on other reviews, the carbonation on these seems to be all over the map. 4-pack of cans from Costco, poured into the brandy snifter I use for all tastings: almost no carbonation. No head, a few bubbles. That said, it's a nice medium-thick mouthfeel. The nose is immediately oak and bourbon barrel, then redfruit and licorice. The 10% rapidly overcomes my taste buds, but there's also oakiness and bourbon barrel in there, and then some generic stout flavor and nothing more but alcohol warmth in the throat. Pretty good overall!
