Commercial Description:
St. Benedict of Nursia lived in the late 5th to early 6th centuries. Legend has it while living in solitude, he was befriended by a raven that later saved his life. He is most remembered for writing the Rule of St. Benedict that, among other virtues, teaches humility. Inspired by this Rule we humbly offer St. Benedict’s Winter Ale, a hand-crafted ale using generous amounts of dark roasted malts and the finest noble hops for a robust warming flavor.

Rather dull appearance with a flat, mahogany body under a faint skin of off-white. Sweet, fruity, lagered aroma with low acetone. Malt, yeast and alcohol clash in flavor. Low smokiness. This isn’t bad. I mean it’s Point, for chrissakes. It’s decent after a low quality beer, but not so hot after a good one.

Pour is a cola looking brown with a small tan head. Aroma has some spice and brown sugar with a touch of dark fruit. Flavor is pretty much the same some dark fruit, candi sugar and molasses. A nice earthyness is left on the tounge after the swallow. This is by far one of the better if not the best beers this brewer makes.

Ruby color. Light aroma but has a dark feel. Sweet tones on the nose. Smooth flavor with a decent finish. Not over the top by any means. A bit dry on the finish.

12oz bottle-An dark amber/ light brown body with a small ring for a head and an aroma of banana, swetness bubble gum. Taste of banana, cloves, maybe coriander, a little malt. It is not a bad tasting brew but it definitely doesn’t fit the dubbel style. One of the better if not best point brew I have had. I look forward to their summer brew.

Crystal clear copper with a thin tan head that recedes quickly into a thin layer. Aroma of toffee, caramel, a bit of dark fruits and roasted malt. Taste of dark fruit, toffee, bubblegum, mild roasted malt and light sugar and spice. Finishes up pretty clean, perhaps a touch dry, with some mild caramel. Better than I expected.

12oz bottle. Filtered amber-brown color. No real head...minimal trace at best. Mild chocolate and amber malt aroma, sort of like a mild Doppelbock. The taste is the same, with a smooth milk chocolate layer of smoothness among the solid background of sweet maltiness. Some amber malt and mild hop spiciness, but overall very smooth and rich. A pretty nice beer from Point, not world-class, but a worthwhile beer to mix it up with.

(12oz bottle thanks to cavie) Pours a dark amber with decent head and good lacing. Not much in the nose but there are some sweet malts and alcohol. The taste surprisingly shows the alcohol as well with brown-ale like malt profile.
