Commercial Description:
As black as ebony, this is the ancestor of the stout. Wiser, the roasted flavours are in harmony with the malt and caramel tastes. The distinct presence of the hops units all of these wonderful elements.

The aroma is roasty, and a tad somkey with notes of dark soy, and coffee. Quite thick i find for a porter. Great roasty flavour with a nice hop bite in the finish.

Pours almost black with small brown head. Aroma is creamy and heavy with malt. Flavor is very nice, with hints of espresso, heavy cream, malt, caramel, and bitter chocolate. Palate is light enough to distinguish from most stouts, but still delicious and drinkable. Very nice porter.

Deep dark brown body with a light brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, dark chocolate and licqorice. Light-bodied; Supre strong taste of roasted malt, burnt coffee and once again - licqorice. Aftertaste is strong and bitter with roasted malt most predominantely. Overall, a decent porter - nothing too special, but not bad in its own right either. I sampled this beer on draught from Dieu Du Ciel in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on 20-Fevrier-2006.

[1413-20080530] Tap. Earthy malt roast aroma. Clear, dark red brown body with a medium-lasting creamy light tan head. Earthy bitter roast malt flavour is not overpowering. Medium-full body is smooth. Nice and repeatable, not too mild, not too strong, but juuuusst right.

2008-05-30. Ruddy brown tinges surround a black core, small tan head struggles valiantly. Aroma is modest malt, mild roast that is variably sweet and dry. (7+) Flavour has a mild sweet malty base, with assertive roast bitterness up front that fades, choosing to stubbornly linger on some sips, and step aside to make way for sweet dark malt on others. Vaguest touch of smoke to the roast, mocha undertones come out as it warms. Smooth average to medium bodied palate. (3+) Grows on me.Draft, Dieu Du Ciel, Montreal

Rose hints on brown. Great smoothness and big roasted dimensions. Low bitterness. Palate has a bit of tingle but not too aggressive. This is as good of a porter as I’ve had in a very long time. (on tap at Dieu du Ciel, Montreal)
