| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 13, 2009 Brown color with a moderate, fizzy sounding, but rather stable light tan head. A chocolate caramel, with just a hint of mocha aroma. Sweet but quite pleasant enough. Not nearly as sweet in the mouth. A light mocha start that dries out throughout. Flavors of caramel, dark cocoa, and roasted malts. Finish and linger go to a bitter, fairly acidic coffee. Hints of lactose. Even though there is a bit of charred ash in the linger, it seems to invite the next sip. Interesting brew. Ughsmash (4265), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 10, 2009 Bottled. Poured deep brown with a creamy cap of oaky head.. looked quite nice. The aroma picked up sweeter caramel and darker chocolates along with molasses.. earthy and lesser piney hoppage accented. The flavor found rather rich semi-sweet chocolates at the core.. again, molasses was the other dominant malty component.. earthy bitterness and lactic sourness around.. finished with nice balance between the elements. Medium-bodied with creamy carbonation on the palate.. a little tacky on the back-end.. bitterness and sourness were complementary.. this was intriguing, and I would have another. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 17, 2007 Updated: Jan 5, 2008A new brewery in Central Wisconsin has arrived and I received an early tasting of their Night Train porter at the brewery in Plover, Wisconsin. Straight from the finishing tank, this beer pours a dark opaque brown brew with a fast dissolving off-white head that has some spotty lacing. Aroma of dark toasted crystal malt, some apple cider character with some slight flowery hop scent. Taste is medium bodied, very light carbonated with some toasted malt and apple skin character and flavor. Finish is semi-sweet with a dark toasted malt and apple aftertaste. This beer has more of a sweet porter or even a Baltic porter character than a sweet oatmeal stout, which was its original recipe. The brewery will be releasing this beer as a porter than an oatmeal stout and it become first available at the 10th annual Ice Cold Beer Festival in Minocqua, Wisconsin. One noticeable style of this beer is it could be considered as a category of its own - a Belgian Porter maybe? Definitely not your average porter. badgerben (3674), Blaine, Minnesota, USA

Pours a deep brown with a clear reddish edge that allows light to pass. Thin off-white head that lasted through the first quarter of the glass and left light lace. Pleasant aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, and to a lesser extent coffee and caramel. The flavor is mostly roasted malt along with some chocolate, coffee, and wet cardboard. Medium bodied.
