Commercial Description:
Barrel-aged in Woodford Reserve bottles. Brooklyn Black Ops does not exist. However, if it did exist, it would be a robust stout concocted by the Brooklyn brewing team under cover of secrecy and hidden from everyone else at the brewery. Supposedly, "Black Ops" was aged for four months in bourbon barrels, bottled flat, and re-fermented with Champagne yeast, creating big chocolate and coffee flavors with a rich underpinning of vanilla-like oak notes. They say there are only 1000 cases. We have no idea what they’re talking about.

2009 bottle sampled at Sexual Chocolate Day 2010. BIG bourbon nose, chocolate milk, vanilla, light wood, light smoke, earthy, wood pulp. Flavor is sweet, vanilla, wood pulp, coffee with cream, brown sugar, molasses. Really super smooth, full bodied with a sweet finish.

Pours black, good sized head, probably due to the Champagne yeast at work here. Aroma chocolate, vanilla, hint of coffee, and some oaky bourbon notes. Flavor matches, with pronounced chocolate and vanilla. Good bit of bourbon there as well, but it meshes well. Coffee falls almost entirely out of the flavor. Nice, although I though the carbonation was a bit much for me.

This is a heavy beer in every sense of the word. Big flavor. Very floral, very hoppy, and very high in abv. It’s fantastic if you can get your hands on it. It’s also a night ender.

Pours BLACK with a creamy brown head. Aromas of bittersweet dark chocolate. Bourbon flavors assault the tongue first which gently gives way to the chocolate which ultimately gives to dark berry fruit on the finish. To quote Shrek "I’m talkin layers donkey". Awesome beer from a great brewery.

Pours black as night with a dark brown head. Aroma smells of malt, coffee, and some bourbon. Bourbon stands out in taste along with chocolate, vanilla and molasses. Happy to have experienced this beer.

2008 bottle, pours pitch black with a tall frothy chocolate mousse head. Aroma is sweet cream, light vanilla and black roasted malt. Creamy roasty, lightly smoked malt body with a touch of oats. Some sweet cream and vanilla end with a light bourbon note. The barrel added a nice touch, but did not overpower the brew and I like it.
