Commercial Description:
Pandan Ale represents a major advancement in Asian style beers. It is a complex brown ale brewed with crystal, chocolate, and honey malts. We have also given it a Southeast Asian flair by adding palm sugar and pandan , a nutty and fragrant leaf. Pandan, also known as bai toey (Thai) and lá dua (Vietnamese), is considered an essential ingredient to Southeast Asian rice dishes and cakes. This is a truly unique and flavorful beer that you will enjoy. Pandan Ale is a dark, full-bodied beer that will complement spicy Thai and Indian curries, as well as savory Filipino and Indonesian stews.

Thanks to SeaBass for this one. A: Pours a light brown hue no real head. No retention or lace. S: Tons of sweet malt aroma. Mostly brown sugar, with hints of caramel and toasted malt. T: Malty malty goodness. Bold brown sugar, caramel, and light roast. Hints of nuttyness with a dash of earth. M: Light in body, smooth, with light carbonation. D: Easy drinking, pretty tasty.

On tap at Taste Restaurant. Pours dark brown with a beige head and some lace. Aromas of brown sugar, nuts, and roasted malts. This is a very sweet brown with much nutty caramel taste and no real bitterness.

Bottle:   Ruby brown, deep caramel like, dirty, moderate to thin off-white head, spotty lacing.   Nose of wet sock, and more wet sock.   A bit of roasted malts, slight ashtray, and carob.   Somewhat of a put-off, at least the sock part.   Flavorwise the wet sock is a minimized but slightly apparent.   Otherwise soft roasted malts, maybe even a hint of ash, campfire, or charred wood.   Slightly sweet, with a bit of lactose like sweetness.   Moderate body and mouthfeel.   Lingering ashtray on the finish.   Interesting take on a Brown Ale.   Palm sugar and Pandan leaves ey?   Not bad, if a little bit unexpected.   Certainly unique.   Perhaps a bit more of a robust Brown Ale.

Bottle from Liquid Solutions. Pours a very dark brown with a three-finger beige/tan head. Aroma is spicey/nutty. Near medium body with mild carbonation. Flavor is roasted malt with some sort of earthy flavor. Rather different - like green/earth. Finish is fairly clean, and definitely not sweet. Not all that bitter either. But the interesting flavor is enough to make this a very tasty beer.

bottle. thanks Mike & Darryl. Pours a deep dark brown. Roasty aroma with strange spice aroma, I suppose Pandan? Notes of roasted malts, chocolate & strange leafy, wet cardboard taste. Fuller mouthfeel. Strange spice to have in a beer but different & glad to have tried
