Commercial Description:
Dating back to 18th century England, the custom of blending pale and dark beers has kept the "Black & Tan" a favorite of experienced beer drinkers for centuries. Our famous recipe combines a robust English Porter with a fine Continental Pilsner, preserving the character of each, while creating the classic taste of the legendary "Black & Tan." In true American style, we bring you the best of both beers as they meet in Mississippi Mud.

Bought it for the bottle, plain and simple. Nothing worth talking about. Doesn’t premixing a black and tan defeat the whole point?

I like this one. Bought it at the local grocery in the nifty jug. The smell is a rich chocolate one. Once again I drank this straight from the jug did not pour it, so I did not notice head forming details. The taste is a subtle chocolate one, goes down real smooth. I thoroughly enjoyed this, buy a few and drink with your friends, they will like it.

Aroma hints at a slight hoppy pils, but only slight. It pours very nice, with a thick foamy head on top of dark amber. Taste is uneventfull, doesn’t taste bad, just taste bland. Watery malt with no significant influence from either the "English Porter" or "fine Continental Pilsner". One of the beers that got me looking outside the box, but that is all I can say for it now.

Pours brown-amber with white head. Aroma is mainly malt with some slight roasted character. Pretty ordinary. Flavor is more of the same, tastes sort of like a macro lager mixed with a porter. Not terrible, but not something I would drink again. Medium carbonation and a creamy mouthfeel. The mouthfeel is the only above average part of the beer.

Smells only faintly. Dark malts. sweet smelling. Very clear, darkish brown/hazel. Good head on pour, not great lacing. Flavour is a bit weakish, malt is in there but the dark malts seem to be covering up the corn. quite sweet. Carbonation/mouthfeel is pretty low, a bit of smoothness and fizziness on the throat but its over fast and theres a lingring film about the mouth, I think the filler again. Doesn’t leave a great taste in the mouth. This stuff was better when I was a broke student who didn’t know about good beer.

1 qt bottle. Pours a rather light chestnut brown body with a large fizzy off-white head that actually had some decent retention. Looks like they took a Porter and watered it down 100%. The nose is very light and very grainy with lots of huskiness. A bit of a nutty quality as well. Weak and watery flavor, husky, minimal to no bitterness. Did they cut the Porter with beer or water? Thin fizzy mouthfeel with a very short finish. This certainly wasn’t worth the $2.95 I paid for the quart.

Got to love this bottle, even before I was into beer this bottle always caught my eye and now many years later I still like it. Dark brown body that is still clear with lots of red shining through. Smell is mild and smells like beer with possibly some black cherry and or cranberry coffee is also noticeable but barely. Taste is much the same but with some mild hops that gives the brew a very crisp taste. Coffee plumbs light roasted malts can all be tasted. The light taste makes this brew highly drinkable I think I like this beer.

Mississippi crud. Pretty terrible, watered down beer. The bottle is awesome though, and it only costs 3 bucks. So take it for what it is.

32oz. Bottle: Aroma of grains, noble hops, and pils malts. Poured amber/copper in color with a small, off-white head that barely lasted around the edges. Clear. Lightly sparkling. Good lacing. Flavor is lightly bitter and slightly sweet. Tastes of a mess of malts, noble hops, slight cocoa, light roasting, and grains. Light to medium body. Slightly dry texture. Average carbonation. Grain, noble hop, and roasted malt finish is slightly dry. Not very good.
