The aroma is sour Belgian yeast, fruity esters, and citrusy hops. The flavor is quite a bit milder than the aroma with a hint of sour yeast, some bread, and a bit of hop flavor and bitterness. Overall it’s a bit watery, but not bad. High carbonation with a light mouthfeel. Bov (5586), Bienne, Switzerland

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 24, 2010 750 ml bottle. A hazy dark amber beer with a huge, creamy, rocky, alcing and mostly lasting white head. The aroma is nicely balanced, moderately hoppy, with notes of grass, grapefruit, lemon, toasted grains, spices, yeast (barnyard). Not the usual bitter nose. The flavour is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly to moderately bitter.
Medium body, lively carbonation, dry long finish with medium to high bitterness. Again very interesting product from Jolly Pumpkin. DruncanVeasey (2867), The Penguin’s Arms, Europe, Warwickshire, England
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 17, 2010 Updated: Jan 27, 2010Batch 288/289. Pours foggy chestnut with a massive beige head climbing rockily out of the (Hooky) pint pot. Some serious whipped beige bathfoam sculptures/Belgian condition pushing a 5 for both looks and feel. Pronounced Brett and gooseberry aroma echoing Orval, as noted by previous raters. Drinks like a very young Orval (or, I would imagine, Orval’s baby brother) with most of the bite, hop jamminess and biscuit sucked out of it. Which leaves...Brett in the front, middle and back. Some ashiness, acidity and dry roasted nuts as from a BC English bitter. Peters out into emptiness with neither hop or malt flavours shining through. Never thought I’d say this about a US craft brew but it needs MORE hops, more everything, except the Brett maybe. Overall impression: Orval shandy mixed with a pretty dull BC English bitter- one-dimensional and yeasty, but still a tasty, well-conditioned brew I enjoyed slugging back. kromamc (117), Italy

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 8, 2010 Dark amber color, hazy, with creamy head. Mild dust and cellar aroma, mild caramel too. Correct body, the mouthfeel is quite dry, there is some dark caramel, and the cellar character; strong bitterness, also from the caramel. Interesting. gunnfryd (3746), Kristiansand, Norway
