Sticky, raisiny aroma with brown sugar, mocha, bubble gum, and some odd fruit. Smells a little like a train wreck. The flavor fares better: lightly over-roasted coffee and chocolate. Very roasty finish with a touch of alcohol.
The aroma comes together more as the beer warms, becomes bready and yeasty, almost like chocolate chip cookie dough.

Flavor matches with the 13.6% well hidden under a smooth clean palate. Not bad but isn’t grabbing me. womencantsail (538), San Dimas, California, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Mar 16, 2010 A: The pour is a very dark brown color with some slight reddish hints and a tiny ring of foam.
S: The nose is not overly "deep", but it does have plenty of dark fruits and alcohol with only some mild roast.
T: The flavor provides plenty of sweetness along with a dark fruit component and some more alcohol. The typical stout components of chocolate, coffee and roast are fairly subdued.
M: The body is medium with a low to moderate carbonation and a definite heat.
D: A swing and a miss by Weyerbacher. I know it has to be tough to cover up 13.5% ABV, but this one didn’t even try. bhensonb (4618), Woodland, California, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Mar 5, 2010 Bottle from craftbeerdesign. Lots of thanks!!! Pours really black with a two finger creamy dark tan head. Strong burnt malt and yeast/spice aromas. Medium plus body with not very strong carbonation. Flavor is like oak aged - but it isn’t. It seems to have vanilla, and I can imagine oak that can’t be there. Very, very rich and smooth. The finish is quite toasted malt rich. I can’t compare it to anything, except perhaps a stout from Alvinne. It’s more sweet than not in the end, but that’s rather Belgian. Heck, it’s "balanced, smooth, and tasty". Drinks way too easy. deyholla (950), Bloomington, Indiana, USA

Poured black with a medium grayish brown head. Aroma had notes of alcohol, dark grains and dark chocolate. There was a slight undertone of bitter hops. Flavor full of strong dark grains and dark chocolate with a bit of alcohol underlying. thirdeye11 (1182), Texas, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 18, 2010 Bottle. Pitch black pour with a short, thick, dark brown head. Aroma is roasted malt, dog biscuits, Belgian yeast, bakers chocolate, and dark fruit. Taste is strong alcohol, big dark fruitiness, Belgian yeast, roasted malt, burnt brownies, and alcohol. Body is medium with a thick, creamy carbonation and a pleasant warmth from the alcohol. Sticky sweet in spots as well. Ends with dark fruit, molasses, bakers chocolate, roasted malt, light coffee, and powdery yeast. Tasty! Sammy (4270), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Feb 13, 2010 This one more than delivered. At most two years old. Pours black thickish with small head. The second half of the bottle had only a token head,of off-white. Aromas of roast and chocolate. The taste is rich chocolate, some roasted barley rather than coffee. Tremendous. The yeast softens the mouth, ad nowhere gets in the way, it may have fallen off and that hit the spot. pilgrimoutlaw (60), Wayne, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jan 30, 2010 Drank a bottle from 2008 while reading a Phillip D. Dick short story. It’s a pretty decent stout, though not as good as the Weyerbacher Heresy in my opinion. After two years, this beer is still boozy. There’s a mild chocolate aftertaste and and some espresso and fruity flavors. Not as good as I hoped, but nothing to complain about either.
