Apr 26, 2008 12oz bottle. thanks to pantanap for sharing. pours black with thin off white head. a huge coffee aroma, hazelnuts. flavors are chocolate, coffee, caramel, held together nicely by subtle hints of bourbon. the barrel has really improved devil made me do it. a sweet coffee finish. fizzy mouth feel. really tasty beer.

Sep 12, 2009 Nice looking dark brown pour with a tan head, this is a tasty beer. Creamy mouthfeel followed by a nice coffee taste. The vanilla/oak of the bourbon barrels hits you on the finish.

Sep 21, 2008 Pour is brownish black with a thin tan head...smell is wonderfully sweet and roasty with lots of chocolate at first, with some coffee and vanilla as it warms...taste is fantastic...sweet and roasty with chocolate up front with a light sweet vanilla flavor/bourbon flavor blending great with subtle coffee...amazingly chewy mouthfeel...fantastic!!!!!

July 2008: Tyranena Devil Over A Barrel is dark brown in color with ruby hues. It has a thin tan-colored head. The aroma includes a blend of coffee and semi-sweet chocolate as well os kind of a "dirty"/earthy quality. Flavors include coffee grounds, cherry-vanilla, caramelized malts, and a tinge of alcohol in the nose. This beer is medium-full in body and smooth is a slight creaminess. This beer is good and quite enjoyable, but seems too soft. I was hoping for something a bit more robust.

Dec 7, 2008 20080728 12oz bottle shared with dickinsonbeer. Decent coffee aroma and flavor wafts from the viscous, dark body beneath a sturdy tan head. Strong indeed as is evident by the impressive malt backbone and hearty booziness. Good stuff.

Fantastic aromatics, huge roasty lively rich and fresh coffee aroma...wow! Wow! For 6 am, this is an ideal beer! and then there’s the whiff of the whiskey, lingering below. Earthy and alive...amazing.
Drinking it...Chocolate pops up, and the smooth, silky oatmeal feel...coffee comes back, and then comes the sweet bourbon. Good Lord, it’s decadent! Sweet, slick, rich, bittersweet, a mystical elixir.
Jumps up and sips sweet succor into the mouth again and again, flavors joust and jockey for their place in the senses.
This is one of those rare beers that puts everything I like in one place. It sets me up just to knock me down. I’m gonna have to stock up on this one!

Feb 13, 2009 pitch black pour with no head. nose of coffee, roasted malts and some bourbon. great on the palate with a heavy fresh coffee flavor and a bourbon finish.
