Brew Kettle Hazelnut Porter

22 oz bottle, via crizay. Pours a clear dark brown body with a nice fizzy foamy light brown head that faded to a thin ring. The nose is huge on the hazelnuts, it’s like a creamy nougat hazelnut candy. Lighter notes of coffee, chocolate, and roast. The flavor is a little light on the Porter and a bit too heavy handed with the hazelnut flavoring, which is just what I expected from the aroma. Dry, with a little roastiness on the finish, it just abruptly ends with just a little retronasal nuttiness. Mouthfeel is thinnish and a little watery with moderate fizzy carbonation. Overall, this might have been a little better with a smaller portion, as it just got to be a little tiring and repetitive, it didn’t change from the first sip to the last.

Courtesy of Dogbrick. Great way to celebrate beer 2000. This beer had an aggressive aroma of cascading nut. Up front is the hazelnut, and behind it one smells and tastes the dryness associated with boiled or roasted peanuts. Pretty smooth, malty, but decently balanced throughout. But I’m a sucker for hazelnut.

2000 beers and no end in sight. This porter is a mostly clear dark brown-black color with a medium thick and rocky light tan head that diminishes steadily. Patchy lacing on the glass. Strong hazelnut and peanut brittle aroma with a touch of malt. Medium-bodied and chewy at times with flavors of hazelnut, malt and chocolate, with lightly bitter hops in the background. The finish is more hazelnut with a nutty and cocoa-flavored aftertaste. Pretty good all around.
