Bottle, courtesy of Benzai during EuroSwap 1/2016. Sweet aroma, almost like a sweet or milk stout. Slightly boozy, but warming and thus not irritating at all. A bit lactic. Not quite as overwhelming as I feared, pleasant to drink for such a heavy beer.

Bottle, pours black with a tan head. Lots of chocolate, dark bread, (c)old coffee, mocha, molasses, citrus leaves, mint. Sweet and quite bitter, boozy, full bodied. Very nice.

Dark brown/black with beige foam that stays as a thin layer. Aroma of milk chocolate, roasted malt and malt coffee. It’s alittle bit coffeeish sour. It tastes like chocolate and coffee. Beer is rather oily but nothing special. Alcohol nibbles tongue, but is not perceptible in aroma or taste. Leaves long aftertaste of milk chocolate.

Bottle at home. Black colour, with a medium, fast disappearing brown fluffy head. Nose of booze and roasted malts, with some coffee. Taste is medium bitterness that disappears quickly with medium sweetness. Low carbonation. Very well hidden alcohol and easy drinking despite the 10 ABV.

UPDATED: APR 15, 2016 330ml bottle poured in a snifter. A: Pours a deep brown to black color, many remains in the bottom. Forms a small and dark beige head when poured. Good retention, it never disappears completely leaving a brown, fizzy bubbled layer. Some lacings are formed S: Strong notes of coffee, dark chocolate, roasted malts and wood. Citrus and earthy hops and alcohol in the end T: Very strong taste. Dominated by roasted malts, coffee and dark chocolate. The 100IBUs do really count here: Deliciously bitter. Strong personality. It’s a dry and bitter beer after all. It has a very creamy and molasses body but not much about sugar M: Extremely creamy and molasses body. Low carbonation. Delicious bitter aftertaste O: Absolutely drinkable beer despite of the 10.2% ABV. Great beer [ BA Review @ 2/11/2012 ]

Cap came off with a loud poof but luckily it wasn’t a gusher. Into a chalice at cellar temperature. Inky black and lifeless in the glass with no head but good legs on the meniscus. Rich, deep, bitter sweet dark chocolate nose with so much more going on. It as earthy liquorice, molasses, chargrilled beef and Biltong umami, bonfire ash and charred red timber - lovely, complex. Thinner than anticipated on the palate. Very bitter and astringent on the tail. The chocolate of the nose plays but is outshone by notes of leather, wood, scorched coffee bean and earth. Fades quickly leaving a powdery, burnt malt feel on the tongue. Really uninspiring given that perfect aroma, but it doesn’t play through to the palate. Booze hits hard, the alcohol heated which is making me feel like I need a Mylanta. not much else here. Was hoping for more. (2010 vintage, bottle #540, 10.2% ABV, 33cL)

Bottle 0,33. Pours black with beige head, nice lacing. Aroma of coffee, roasted malts, dark chocolate. Taste is coffee, cocoa, dark chocolate, roasted malts a hint of plums in the aftertaste. Nice balance between sweet and bitter. Full body and oily texture, soft carbonation.
