dark ale
A blend of two ales: Old 5X , which is brewed to the maximum strength possible (around 12% abv) and left to mature in 100-barrel oak vats for a minimum of two years, and BPA, a dark, full-bodied freshly brewed beer which is added just before bottling. The result is a unique beer - strong (6% abv), dark, fruity, oaky and very, very special.
Bottles have been sterile filtered since May 2006.

Piana sycząca, średnio pęcherzykowa, szybko opada niemalże do zera. Barwa mahoniowa, klarowna. Aromat głównie karmelowo-czekoladowy, w tle dębina, wanilia, daktyle, kandyzowane owoce, może odrobina miodu spadziowego i syropu klonowego. Generalnie słodki, dość złożony i przyjemny aromat (niestety przykryty karmelem). W smaku jest bardzo podobnie - znów karmelowa, słodka podstawa dominuje całe bogactwo smaków starego drewna, suszonych owoców i szlachetnego miodu. Troszkę to przypomina Dubbla zmieszanego z morzem angielskiego Brown Ale. Nagazowanie średnie do niskiego. Goryczki praktycznie nie czuć, może nieco szorstko-popiołowe odczucie na języku i lekko likierowy, choć przyjemny alkohol stanowią przeciwwagę do karmelu, ale to zdecydowanie za mało. Gdyby zmienić proporcje, zwiększyć udział Old Ale 5X, wtedy zapewne to piwo "wbijałoby w ziemię". W tej jednak wersji jest zaledwie przyzwoitym piwem, nieco zbyt deserowym, słodkim, ugrzecznionym i bezchmielowym...

Pours dark red with short-lived beige head. Malty aroma, bread, plums, caramel. Taste is sweet with bitter finish. Very malty, a bit woody too. Light-medium body, light carbonation.

"Strong Suffolk Dark Ale", 0,33 l bottle from bierpost, bottled in april 2014. Clear, dark red with a thin, frothy, almost stable, tan head. Pleasant, sweetish-fruity, slightly vinous aroma of dark cherries, plums, blackcurrant, caramel and molasses. Sweetish-malty taste of raisins, blackcurrant, caramel, nuts and hints of oak. Short, malty, slightly bitter and minimally vinous finish. Medium to full body, slightly oily texture, very soft carbonation. Great, delicious brew with a lovely vinous touch. Not just simply sweet, but quite complex.

Marron rojiza oscura, aroma marcado a vino tinto. En boca, inicialmente dulce para pronto evolucionar al vino del aroma, que ya permanece hasta el final, acabando seca y amarga. Rara, aunque no esta mal del todo.

27.04.15. Quite intensive caramel, raisins and ripe fruits aroma. Completely disappearing head. Dark ruby-brown colour. Intensive caramel sweetness, noticeable bitterness and well-balanced acidity.

UPDATED: JUN 8, 2015 High carbonation gives a poor appearance of coke. But its intense aroma takes over.

Copenhagen 5/6 2015. 33 cl bottle from SuperBest. Very angry Bull on the label sending warnings that this is not a beer to mess about with. Pours dark brown with small beige head. Disappears immediately. Fruity and sugary aroma. A little alcohol and fermentation. Reminds me a little bit of the aroma of a Long Island Ice Tea (looks the part too). Very low carbonation. Taste is sweet at first with some sherry and whiskey. Nice bitterness comes in and dominates the aftertaste. When you get used to the lack of carbonation this is a quite fine brew.

On bottle from Vinmonopolet Norway, on order (bu). Amber color, some foam. Medium/high aroma intensity; malty, dried fruits, choclate, light coffee. Medium/full body & complexity. On the sweet side, but the carries it ok. Enjoyable
