UPDATED: AUG 9, 2023 From a jar at Bia Hoi Ha Noi Chi Tý, Saigon. So glad the kind lady here let me try a glass of this Vietnam tradition. So much better than Bia Hanoi - it's perfect for the sweaty hot weather of the country. Corny grain aroma. Clear light colour. Apple taste. Watery, if a little queasy ending.

UPDATED: MAR 15, 2020 Poured from a can into a tulip glass. Tropical fruit aroma. Pours a crystal clear, straw / pale golden colour with a white head that dissipates to form patchy lacing and solid collar. Refreshing on a warm day. Typical SE Asian beer, quite sweet in flavour. light bodied makes easy drinking. Ok, but not great.

Seems silly to put a score to something that varies at every store since they all (generally) brew their own batch. Will do so anyway - this is an average-d score that should be balanced against the fact that it's dirt cheap, is more of a refreshing beverage than a tasting beer, and it's super fun to knock back multiple glasses while sitting by the roadside.

Not a great beer, but definitely an experience. Pours a foamy cloudy yellow. Smells of beer and a bit of rice. Taste is slightly better then a domestic in a can. Has a sweet tint from the rice. Goes down easy and is damn cheap. Had in the plastic cup.

If you’re going to get Bia Hói (fresh beer) in Vietnam, the Hà Nôi (Hanoi) version is the one to get. You will find fresh beer in other cities but the Hanoi brewer does the best job. It’s even better than most of the the weak, flabby local lagers you’ll find in bottle and cans. Nope, it’s not a fabulous beer, but dollar for dollar (my actual price was less than 23 cents for 12 ounces) you won’t find a better beer on the planet.

Just finishing my last couple of Vietnam rates. Obviously on tap at a little Bia Hoi place in Hanoi. Uniquely watery, corny grassy stuff. barely tastes of much. fresh, cold and refreshing. dirt cheap. what can I say that you don’t already know... if you visit Hanoi, you must have this.

[Tap] Poured directly from what looked like an hand pumped keg at a street corner in Hanoi. Very dirty glass was off-putting, but the beer itself was all right. Pours a light yellow color with a high level of carbonation. Nose of corn, vegetal notes and some straw. Flavors are of pale malts, grain, wet grass and mild sour notes. Light in body. Very refreshing. Low in alcohol and by far the cheapest beer you will get anywhere. We paid $1 for 5 beers in 16 oz. mugs. Tasting notes from 8/2014.

Bia Hoi saved my life, as a regular beer drinker working in the heat of Hanoi Bia Hoi is something that will slake my thirst without getting pissed. My local Bia Hoi joint on Quan Thanh was just like my "local" in the UK with regular customers and my drink poured as I walked in off the street. OK the beer was larger and not a pint of bitter but "when in Rome" and this "Rome" was a great place to live
