In any case, it tasted to me like it was trying to be a stout. While nicely balanced w/hops, it tasted a bit watery to me. Not a great ale or stout in my opinion.

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 18, 2010 Pours dark brown to black. Light roasty nose of coffee and chocolate. Very light though. Taste has similar elements that are more pronounced. This is probably the best Abita beer that I’ve had so far. Unfortunately that’s not saying much. crajun (113), , Texas, USA

Leaves a streaky lace. Aroma is a toast, roasty and nuts. Tastes of a sweet bitterness kind of like a chocolate covered coffee bean. Also has notes of toffee and caramel. Full body, oily texture and flat carbonation. tastybeer (210), Washington DC, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 5/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Mar 7, 2010 Bottle. Pours black with a big frothy brownish head. Flavor is toffee, coffee, chocolate toasted malts. Very watery though. Would probably make for a good session beer if you want to drink a ton of something dark. ansermadide (577), Kyle, Texas, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Mar 6, 2010 Talk about a frothy head! This beer really is a looker, with a healthy, billowy cream colored head stop a deep dark brown body translucent at the edges. The froth actually stays in tact as it sticks to the side of the glass. Bitter malt aroma, light-bodied, lightly hopped, and lighly malted. Notice most of this review is of the appearance... There’s a reason for that. Not much else to say about the beer itself. In my opinion, doesn’t hold up to it’s name. I think that’s what threw me off. RickTStiles (112), New York, USA

| 2.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 7/20 | Feb 15, 2010 A feeble attempt at a stout. the taste is just way to weak. You take a sip and the taste only lasts for about two seconds before fading into an awful, bitter aftertaste. SM_Jenkins (23), Missouri, USA
