Commercial Description:
Ne Goeien is Flemish for "A Good One." We’d like to think this beer is exactly that. When we invited Hildegard Van Ostaden from Urthel to come brew with us at Port Brewing, we hoped the collaboration of our brewers and her passion for brewing would result in one fine beer. A simple Saison styled beer with firm bitterness is all she requested. From the beginning, it was easy to imagine this beer as Ne Goeien all the way.

75cl bottle shared at The Bruery reserve party. hazy yellow with a big white head. Spicy, yeasty and hoppy aroma. Pale bready malt flavors, some grass, and surprising hop flavor and bitterness with this much age on it. Less yeasty flavor than aroma, but a nice spice and fruitiness. Light bodied and refreshing. Solid hoppy and refreshing saison with relatively clean flavors.

Bottle @ Lost Abbey tasting room. Liquid gold spilled into the glass and produced a 1/4 inch fizzy ivory head. Aroma is quite yeasty, with biscuit, white pepper, and lemongrass. Flavor shows bright citrus, yeast, spice, and funk. Tons of grassy/earhy qualities. Dry and delicious.

Pours an almost transparent yellow with a white solid head. Smells of dusty yeast, wet grass, citrus peel, and mildewy books. Flavors were of lemon accented yeast esters, grassy almost plasticy bitterness, and spicey notes from the yeast or perhaps from actual spices. Alcohol is present even though the beer is relatively low abv. I’m not really a fan of the yeast here...it’s gritty and spicy in ways i don’t like. Then again, these types of saisons aren’t usually my thang anyway. I’m just drinking it to cure a hangover and i don’t want to waste a good beer for that deed.

Pours a hazy golden yellow color with dark golden mustard yellow hues when held to a light source and frothy, pillowy two finger white head with very good retention, only slowly fading into a lasting cap that leaves chunks of soapy lacing behind. Slight earthy funk aroma with subtle grassy hops and crsip light fruit notes. Hints of apple and pear along with a zesty peppey spice character. Slight bready yeast presence. Clean, crisp and very quaffable with a nice balance of subtle malt, earthy hops and crisp light fruit. Fuller end of medium body with a nice bready yeast presence. Lots of light crisp fruit, especially apple, strawberry, pear and strawberry. Slight earthy funkiness, spicy lemon zest and pepper along with subtle bitter hops and a dry finish.

Cloudy golden, long lasting white head, good lacing. Aroma is of light citrus, yeast, must. Flavour is yeasty, soft, floral, perfume, light spice, citrus. Creamy mouth, med/light body, high carb. Finishes lingering, soft, yeast.

Light and floral with just a hint of citrus in the flavour. The aroma is much better.

750ml bottle.
Opened March 2009.
No date.

Pours a pretty yellow honey with a thick foamy head. Aroma is faintly vinegar with some herbs and toastiness. Taste moves from sour into floral and finishes bitter. Palate is a bit thin and somehow it doesn’t quite pack the punch I was expecting, but it is enjoyable none the less.

Medium bitterness, with a light sour touch to its palate. Typical light yellow body. Rather unfulfilling mouth feel.
