UPDATED: MAR 14, 2020 Barwa błotniście brązowa, silnie mętna. Piana średnio wysoka, beżowa, redukuje się w średnio szybkim tempie. Mocny aromat słodowy, chlebowy z nutami popiołowymi, tytoniowymi i ziemistymi. W tle trochę orzechów. W smaku popiół, tytoń, orzechy, trochę ciemnych suszonych owoców i podobnie jak w aromacie intensywne nuty słodowe, chlebowe. Goryczka delikatna, orzechowa. Posmak średnio długi, słodki słodowy. Alkohol dobrze ułożony. Wysycenie średnie. Duża ilość ciała. Tekstura płynu jest gładka.

Alengrin (11011) - Gent, BELGIUM - DEC 30, 2019
UPDATED: DEC 30, 2019 Barleywine by this Tuscan brewery, a new one for me; from a 33 cl longneck bottle. Thick and frothy, somewhat irregular, creamy, beige-ish egg-white, slowly thinning but generally stable head, hazy deep bronze-brown robe with ruby red hue - and bits of dead yeast and proteins floating everywhere, visible when held under bright light. Aroma of toffee, walnut liqueur, candied cherries, prunes, old oxidized ruby port, old brown bread crust, raisin bread, cranberry sauce, fig jam, brown rum, ground hazelnuts, dried banana, candi sugar, fried apples, sugared tea, old cotton rags, cloves, dry earth. Sweet onset, candi sugariness with fruity notes of candied cherries, figs and dates, some cooked apple and stewed plum, light sourish undertone, medium carbonation, full and soft, more or less vinous mouthfeel; toffeeish-caramelly, brown-bready and vaguely chocolatey maltiness, thick and syrupy but not overly so, with ongoing fruity esters and growing spicy phenols (clove) as well as notable yeasty breadiness. Slight toasty bitter accent in the finish accentuated by the spiciness of the phenols, a leafy hop bitter accent and - coming not too soon - port- and rum-like, warming alcohol, with an effect of rum-soaked raisins, while retronasally, an old oxidized port-like effect dominates. Very full, darkly malted and candi sugar-forward, this feels much more like a quadrupel than a barleywine, but a full-bodied, quite complex and vinous one. My sample was clearly a bit aged already, though I do not normally consider this a problem in barleywines and the age did lend this beer a 'noble', mature and 'deep' profile, with ample 'portorisation' to enjoy - even if the 'best before' date is still about a year away, strangely. Very decent trappist-like quad, I'd say, but it seems a pity that this Brùton brewery did not seize the opportunity to create a sophisticated Italian style barleywine while making use of Italy's wine heritage, like many other Italian breweries have done (to the extent that I - and several prominent beer authors with me - have come to regard it as a separate regional substyle of barleywine).

UPDATED: MAR 19, 2019 Schiuma beige chiaro. Colore ambrato carico, velata.

rafax (743) - Bedzin, POLAND - AUG 2, 2018
Bottle. Very dark amber to brown, hazy with almost no head and just minimum lacing. Looks like a mud in a glass. Rich and sweet aromas of dried fruits, resins, a bit of honey and some bready notes. Nice and pleasant. Sweet start, very smooth, medium body and a bit tart and spicy finish with very light warming. Surprisingly drinkable for this abv. Very good.

Very nice classic siper of a bw. Honey over toffee and maltiness, some slight bread crust vibe. Very nice warming. Would enjoy some more dried fruit

Bouteille 33cl, BB 12/01/2021, lotto# L160112D.

onceblind (18758) - Denver, Colorado, USA - FEB 2, 2017
Hazy chocolaty brown with no lasting head. Big fruity date and coconut sweetness undertones on the slightly boozy sweet nose. Big boozy sweet date and plum flavors with a warming Belgian tone and dark toffee malt. Warm and sweet and fruity but belgianish and smooth.

Donkerbruin bier met beige schuimkraag. Aroma: gedroogd fruit, hazelnoot, koffie, geroosterd, bittere chocolade. Smaak: gedroogde vruchten, amandel, hazelnoot, donkere chocolade. Ruim mondgevoel met fijn koolzuur en zoetige afdronk.

Silvan7 (1391) - Samarate, ITALY - FEB 2, 2016
Bottle @ barbaresco Legnano.
