I may have had a dud cos this beer had no head and very low carbonation. Beautiful roasty malt flavour, biscuity, leatherwood. Will try again despite it’s flatness.

Coffee and cream and some mild tar on the aroma. Quite inviting. Very delicate mouthfeel with some bright carbonation. Very mild and nice flavor. Sweet coffee and burnt sugars. Finishes with a small hint of bitterness. Very good beer. jeremytoni (1296), Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 15, 2010 Pitch black but thin-looking with small tan head. Mild tar, coal, asphalt, and chocolate in the aroma. Silky palate has nice, delicate carbonation. Sweetness on the tongue. Not a lot of roast except for a kiss of it in the finish. Very delicate flavors. A touch of kiwi? and coffee. Refined, subdued, with sold malt character. A memorable one. Oakes (8340), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 31, 2009 Very dark brown. The aroma is raisiny, slightly tarry, burnt with dark fruits and background earthy/toffeeness. This is somebody’s interpretation of an old ale. Chrewy, sweet but quite earthy and tarry. Light raisin and molasses. Fairly light body - dangerously drinkable with its smooth dark flavours. popery (320), San Francisco, California, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Nov 19, 2009 Fairly average schwarzbier. Pours a nice deep ruby brown with pretty good lacing. Aroma is mostly malty caramel with a touch more roast and a bit of nuttiness in the flavor. I guess if schwarzbier is your thing then you’ll like this one. For me, it’s all a tad thin and uninteresting and doesn’t quite stand up to American and German versions. Thylacine (334), Tasmania, Australia
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Nov 18, 2009 Bottle - Smoky aroma. Almost Black with red edges when held to light. Tan head. Medium body and carb. Roasted Malts, Smoky, Liquorice, chocolate. Mild bitterness. Something lacking in the finish. Soonah (1000), Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Nov 17, 2009 Poured dark brown with a thin wisp of off-white bubbles and a bit of lace. The aroma was roasted malts and light milk chocolate. The flavor carried through the milk chocolate flavors. Lightly roasted malts came out as well. Thin mouthfeel. Overall it was a bit too sweet and not quite roasty enough for me. ben4321 (1232), Rockville, Maryland, USA

Aroma: An aroma of roasted malts and coffee with some bread notes and chocolate as well
Appearance: Pours an opaque black with a tick and bubbly brown head, and a good amount of lace
Flavor: Tastes similar to the nose, quite a strong roasted malty presence
Palate: This one is has a medium body and a nice dry and smooth finish
Overall Impression:
I like this beer. It is pretty tasty, and works pretty well. Nothing overly standout here, just a solid attempt at the Schwarz style. Anyway, it is a nice brew.
