Commercial Description:
The American IPA is a different soul from the reincarnated IPA style. More flavorful than the withering English IPA, color can range from very pale golden to reddish amber. Hops are typically American with a big herbal and / or citric character, bitterness is high as well. Moderate to medium bodied with a balancing malt back bone.

Draft at the brewery. Cloudy copper. FIrm creamy head. Aroma lightly hoppy - resiny and lightly citric. Pretty strongly bitter. Malt is firm and gives some body but there’s not much flavor from it, its just there - bready if anything.

Draft… Hazy amber/orange ale with a small, creamy, white head. The nose is of pale grains and musky, earthy hops. Full-bodied with a coarse mouthfeel. Tannic, citrus peel bitterness presides over medium roast malts. Lengthy, bitter finish.

On tap at Bold City. It poured clear copper with white head. The aroma seems citrusy with a thin layer of soft spicy hops along with sweet malts and a faint sense of ripe cherries. The taste combines a rich sweet maltiness and moderate citrus hop flavor with restrained hop bitterness. It ends both smooth and refreshing with a touch of toffee mixing in with hop flavor and fading malt sweetness.

Tap@ the brewery. pours golden/amber with thin white head. Aroma is hoppy, some malts with light spicy notes. Flavor, malty, hoppy leaving some bitterness. Grassy hops, pine, citrus elements. Hops are present though remain highly subduded. Simple and quaffable IPA, body is yet again, light.

On tap @ Bold City. Clear light amber. Oxidized hop presence. Smells like there were once hops, they seem to be now gone. Big bitterness, well for the amount of malt used. Very thin body. Hop flavor does stick around on the palate. 25 July 09

Appearance: Pours a hazed, dark amber body with a smallish, whitish head. Smell: Aroma smelling of Brach’s caramel squares, some earthy, leafy hops, and touches of pithy citrus. Taste: Pale malts along with tastes of caramel and lightly toasted bread. Medium sweetness. Leafy, citrusy hop character. Moderately bitter. After the midway surge of bitterness, the malts hang back, allowing the hops to dominate somewhat. Dry, citric finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Medium-low carbonation. Drinkability: Fairly solid! Stop and have a pint as this isn’t just another IPA to plow over recklessly in a motorboat.

from growler at Ale Atlanta 6/4... would like to try this fresh to compare considering it was in the growler for 2 months. it help up pretty well with a solid bitterness on the back. However, I feel the aroma suffered a bit.... therefore I bumped my rating on aroma up a notch since there were some lingering hops noticeable. medium body with a solid malt backbone... the hops and malts really mix well resulting in a very nicely balanced IPA. Good amount of bitterness on the finish. Thanks Cliff for bringing this one.

On tap at the brewery. Clear dark gold with a white head. Caramel nose with some citrusy fruit and earth. Flavor is much the same. Solid and balanced.
