Draught at Kickback’s. Pitch black with thick tan head. Aroma is hard to pick up but includes some asphalt (which I always find pleasant) and not a lot of smoke. Quaffable mouthfeel. Not smoky enough for my palate. Lots of roasted malt, slightly burnt but still fun to drink.

Draft at the brewery. Pours a dark brown almost black body topped by a small, tan colored head of foam. The aroma shows hints of dark chocolate, roast, some dark fruits, and a touch of smoke. The flavor follows with the bitter dark chocolate and roast up front, and balanced nicely by some fruits and a touch of smoke. Piney and earthy hops lend some good bitterness on the backend. Medium bodied with good carbonation that leads to a bitter chocolate finish. This is definitely one of their better beers.

Draft… Pours clear and nearly black (ruby with an orange tint when held up to light) with a mid-sized, creamy, khaki head. Good retention. The bouquet is roasted, acrid and a hint smoky. Full-bodied with a silky mouthfeel and soft carbonation. Bitter, burnt, charcoal-like flavor. Acrid, scorched finish.

On tap at the brewery. Clear, very dark brown with ruby highlights. Nice brown head. Mild citrus zing to the nose, but mostly sweet fruit and chocolate, wisps of smoke. Silky body, very smooth. Mildly sweet chocolate flavors, roasty and fruity, a light bite late. Nice stuff!

on tap-pours a light brown head that laces and dark brown color with red tint. Aroma is northwest hops-citrus, secondary roasty medium malt-licorice. Taste is northwest hops-citrus, secondary roasty medium malt-licorice/brown sugar. Although after half it didn’t mesh so well but still interesting and occasional.

Near black body with a thick head. Nice plummy aroma with light chocolate. Bitter chocolate palate with a hint of smoke and some subtle dark fruit. Bitter, dry finish with light milk chocolate accents.

Draft at the brewery. Almost hard to believe this is a smoked porter. Nose is hoppy, with the smoke and toffee flavors taking a back seat. Flavor follows suit. Packed with hops, and a slight smokiness in the back. Very good, but hard to believe it is a porter.

Pint at the brewery tap room in Riverside. Pours a deep brown almost black with a thin, tan, creamy head. Aromas mostly muted but there are some chocolate and roasted malts and coffee. Flavor is full-bodied with an enormous balancing hops, brown sugar, and faint smoked malt. Very drinkable and not too light. 8% is barely noticeable as seems to be the case with most of the Bold City beers. Probably my favorite offering aside from the Chinook IPA, which is not listed yet on this site.
