Bottle at home ... with Jan and charlotte ... Deep black ... thin lacing ... light smoke and roast malt ... deep malt again a little smokey woody ... quite a bit of hop in background ... decent solid porter.

Bottle shared by a generous local, thanks dude. Poured a deep brown/black color with a moderate beige head that faded to a thin layer. Sweet, smoky aroma with hints of applewood, meat, light chocolate, and a hint of roast. Smooth, lightly sweet entry with some light hints of meat lead into a nice smokiness with a light roasted undertone paired with a good applewood flavor that finishes lightly dry and lingers a bit on the palate. Low carbonation, but a bit thin on the palate. It was easy to drink, but some more body could have made this brew awesome.

Pours with a dark brown color. It appears black in the glass. Nose has some depth to it. Notes of fire, char, root, dark chocolate and burnt espresso. Flavor is very mild, has some malt complexity and depth to it, but the mouth feel is very thin, almost watery. Overall, I like this fine smoked ale, but wish it had more body.

22oz bottle acquired in trade with goldtwins (thanks!). Poured a dark black color with a smaller sized off white/tan head. Aromas of chocolate, roast, a subtle smokiness that came out more as it sat, nutty, and some coffee. Tastes of chocolate, some roast, the same subtle smokiness, and some coffee. Lighter body.

Bottled. Wouldn’t really call this a smoked, more like a porter with a (nice) touch of smoke, but whatever. The smoke character in the aroma is very dry, ashy, with some pomegranate and peanut. Nice complexity. Very dry flavor, chalky and kind of taffy-like, with a chewy, malty finish. Low on bitterness. Not in your face at all, but this one wins for its calm, controlled flavors and delicate complexity. Very solid.

Aroma is roasted malts, followed by the smell of firewood, and smoke. Opaque dark brown, almost black, thick tan head. The flavor is malty, chocolatey, with the taste of campfire smoke. Very enjoyable. The mouthfeel is relatively thick, nice feel. The finish is light hops, but bittering is acheived in the end by roasted malts. Sweetnes up front segues into bitter roastyness at the end. An enjoyable beer, and a nice achievement for a small brewer. (Next time, I hope I see the bomber for less than $7.50.

Bottle from new beer. Pours a back body with a 3 finger tan head. Smoke, campfire, roasted malt. Thick smokey roasty with a big body. Licorice, chocolate, light bitterness to round out. Lighly woody, with a creamy body.
