From old tasting notes. Thick Rich black brown color. Creamy tan head. Rich chocolaty malt aroma. Initially, this stout is chocolaty and sweet. Then, there is an underlying hoppiness that is uncharacteristic of the style. A bittersweet roasted malt flavor pervades in midtaste. Long coffe-like finish. Wonderfully Rich and hearty. Excellent.

OLD NOTES MAY 9, 2004 Shouts go out to a mate who bought this back from the US with him. Really liked the aroma, strong, pretty sweet, chocolate, coffee and roasted malt, possibly cherry kind of fruity hints to it as well. Pours thick and black with a orangey tan bubblely sort of head. The flavour is rich, mainly roasted malt, chocolate and dark fruit hints. Has a strong, slightly bitter espresso finish, quite dry.

22 oz bottle. Pours black with a brownish orange head. Smells of dark chocolate and coffee. Tastes of cocoa, dark chocolate, and tobacco ash. Body is too thin and watery, but the flavor is pretty good.

I’ve had this one for a coupld of years, definitely a weak IS, Load of chocolate flavor, deep brown yeah that goes away. Body is kind of thin, though. It’s alright

Many, many thanks to Jeff for digging deep to find this for me! This looks to be an older vintage with a red label (if anyone knows when this might have been brewed, please let me know). Poured a clear, medium-viscosity deep brown with just a few large, loose bubbles of head around the edges. The aroma showed some degredation, but it evolved in a very enjoyable way.. sweeter chocolates, molasses, caramel, and honey accented by drier, dusty herbal notes. The flavor was very sweet with drawn caramel and chocolate at the forefront.. honey, cola, and light coffee round it out on the back half.. sticky and pleasant, but this is where the lighter gravity and age affected it the most. A tad shy of medium-bodied, sweet, and sticky on the palate.. very little carbonation remained. This held up surprisingly well.

Had this beer on 1/8/1998. The color is a deep black, aroma has a sweet malt smell with back tones of coffee. There is little head and carbonation is low. Taste is fair, down fall is that the body is too light. It starts off light and bubbly then goes down with a sharp bitter taste. It doesn’t live up to what the lable clames it to be and is not one of the better stouts I’ve had.

Bottle. Found in cellar. I’m not sure how long its been there. Pours dark with a fleeting tan head. Aroma contains coffee and chocolate. The taste of coffee, roasted malts and some chocolate is interrupted by the alcohol i picked up. I have had impys with double the alcohol content not taste as much. Not as viscous as I would like to see either. Very average.

This beer looks dark with a dark brown head. It looks a little watery. The head dissapered quickly. This beer has hints of coffee and chocolate. It smells sweet. It tastes creamy. It has a sweet taste to it. There is very little alcohol taste to it. In my opinion, that is a defining atribute to an Imperial Stout. This beer goes down smoothly. It is not to bitter. It is easy to drink. The fact that the alcohol content is so low means that you could drink a few. I find myself going for the more malty beers, and this beer is a little lacking. I would probably drink this beer again if there were not any other more malty stouts available.
