Brewed by Mikkeller at Nøgne Ø, Norway.
This imperial Oatmeal stout is brewed with one of the world’s most expensive coffees, made from droppings of weasel-like civetcats. The fussy Southeast Asian animals only eat the best and ripest coffee berries.Enzymes in their digestive system help to break down the bean. Workers collect the bean-containing droppings for Civet or Weasel Coffee. The exceedingly rare Civet Coffee has a strong taste and an even stronger aroma.
Ingredients : Water, malts, hops, yeast and Vietnamese ca phe chon coffee.

Bottle enjoyed @ grouse camp by the fire. Deep, oily black - nose is burnt caramel and deep roasted coffee, a little alcohol heat. Flavor is sweet upfront - mollasses and toffee, with the coffee making a full-on assault @ the finish. As it warms, the booze is very evident. Really nice brew, but not as complex/well-married flavors as it could be.

Bought from PRE-ZBF Alvinne beer shop. A great find on my wants’ list which I need to update. I poured slowly into the big ESB glass I use. The head was massive! Awesome dark rich smooth head! As a head goes this is probably the best yet! It peters out to smooth foam with bubbles stagnant and a crisp head around the glass. Ultra cool head work. This is the bomb. Well aroma is an instant of excessive rich dark malts; dry-roasted coffee, burnt toast, dark chocolate the good dark expensive stuff and vanilla. An awesome smell. Vaguely reminiscent of Stone’s Russian Imperial Stout which is kinda weird considering as logistics go! Taste is silky dark chocolate; vanilla, coffee, leather and a tad woody and oaky. Wow. This is superb. I am loving this. Up there with Black Damnation 2 as coffee stouts go and I’ve had two of the finest this week. I’m feeling lucky. Drinkability is good and balance is consistent. A little bitter kick. Finish is long; hot and chocolatey. Damn good beer.

This is the pinnacle of imperial stouts. It pours pitch black, with a giant frothy chocolate-milk head. The aroma is as usual for the style: strong chocolate, hints of roasted coffee beans. It tastes up front of sweet chocolate, and melts into a soft, lingering bitterness. The balance of sweetness to bitterness is perfect. The body is medium, neither watery nor thick like many imperial stouts. It has a creaminess like I’ve never encountered before in a non-nitrogenated beer. The texture is my favorite part of the beer. Imperial stouts are at the top of my personal list, and this beer is one of the best I’ve ever had.

A: The pour is black with a thin tan head on top which has some very nice retention and lacing. S: The nose is definitely heavy on the coffee with plenty of roasted malt as well. T: I was surprised that the flavor had the level of depth that it did. Certainly lots of coffee and roasted malt, but a nice amount of chocolate with a touch of smokiness. M: The body is medium with a slightly tingly carbonation which I wasn’t expecting. D: Probably the best Mikkeller beer I’ve had to date. Great coffee flavor and aroma and a solid all around beer.

Bottle. Black with tan head that fades. Aroma of big dark chocolate that is sweet, booze, big roastedness and creamed coffee. Taste is big sweet chocolate that ends in coffee bite. Bitter finish lingers. Heavy bodied and oily on the palate.

Pitch black pour with a creamy brown head. Aroma is dark roast, coffee, chocolate, a bit of fruit and molasses. Flavor is a bit roasty and bitter, with lots of coffee. Very tasty stuff!

500 mL bottle. Pours black with a light brown head. Deep aromas of chocolate, coffee, vanilla, and some dark fruits. Flavor has a lot of lightly roasted coffee, but not an overwhelming amount, backed up with bitter chocolate and some hoppy bitterness. One of the best coffee stouts I’ve had.

Bottle thanks to fata2683. Pours inky black with dark brown large foamy head. Aroma is nutty, pecan, coffee, hint of vanilla, roasty, bitter. Flavor is coffee, bitter, BBQ, earth, dirty, roast, nice bitterness on the back end. Alcohol is well hidden. Creamy mouthfeel.

In short: A brutal, very brutal, highly roasted boozy and chalky coffee beer.
How: Bottle 500ml. Many times. This rating for a bottle almost 1 year of age.
The look: Black body topped by a medium tan head with medium retention
In long: Big nose with lots of tar, coffee and dark berries. Taste is scarily aggressive. Alcohol is more than apparent, this is a very boozy beer, feels even more than 10.9%. Highly roasted malts, like burnt campfire wood. Lots of cheap black coffee (more black coffee than roasted coffee beans). Body is too thin for the strength of the beer. I liked the lack of sweetness sensation but I missed the lack of corpulence. A surprising amount of green bitter hops in the finish, reminiscent of the Mikkeller Black Hole hopping. Finish is harsh, very harsh. Leaves a wood chalk sensation. I really don’t understand the buzz about this brutal beer. As subtle as a sledgehammer smash in the genitals.
