Nose is roasty malts and cocoa with a bit of caramel and nuttiness. Taste is malty and roasty with more nutty flavors and a bit of hops. Very tasty! Body is creamy and medium-full with a moderate carbonation feel. Ends with more chocolate, cocoa, nuts, and roasty malts. Very good! Hopistotle420 (1178), Amherst, Massachusetts, USA

Moderately sweet, light to medium bodied, finishes with hops, assertive bitter hops. Very drinkable, a grat west coast session brown. Frank (1237), Chicago, Illinois, USA

Mild nose. Some chocolaty malts with a bit of hops here and there. If Sierra Nevada was going for pure drinkability, they got it. kujo9 (1079), North Ridgeville, Ohio, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 5/5 | 12/20 | Oct 12, 2006 12 oz bottles: Medium brown w/ a lasting very light beige head. Lightly chocolate and roasted coffee malts w/a nutty and lightly toasted malt aroma and just a hint of burnt. But all malts seem a little bit dull. Very light herbal hop aroma sneaks in beneath the malt. Overall well balanced at the beginning, but turns decidedly bitter in the semi dry finish & aftertaste. Herbal hop aftertaste. Light toasty and nutty malts w/ a hint of nutty in the mid palate. Medium body, lower medium carbonation, fairly smooth m/f. Flavorful yes, but flavorwise seems a bit one dimensional between malts and hops. OldGrowth (1453), North Carolina, USA

Aroma of brown sugar and faint chocolate. Has a crystal hop like body with a little vanilla and a bit of malt in the back. Finish is a bit thin and dry. Tastes like a sweeter version of the pale ale. robertsreality (2460), Minnesota, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 1, 2005 Brown/ruby color with small head. Other than the color,it wasn’t much of a brown ale. There is a pretty noticable floral hop aroma and taste. There is that woody taste that you get with a lot of Belgian ales. Good.
