COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Early summer, this barrel aged wheat wine is coming out very nicely (12% ABV) White Oak is a blended beer-- 50% wheatwine aged in Bourbon barrels (we call it "White Oak Sap"), and 50% Mischief (our Golden Strong Ale). Vivid caramel, coconut and vanilla flavors blanketed in a crisp yet robust wheat ale, White Oak is an exercise of balance.

UPDATED: APR 5, 2019 At first this kind of tastes like a strong golden ale, but then the flavors get a lot more complex. Coconut flavors and some fruity pineapple building towards the end. Light bourbon but not overly sweet, as there is enough sweetness as there is. Light caramel balanced with well will medium amount of hops. If this wasn't so damn expensive, I'd probably buy it again!

UPDATED: FEB 9, 2019 2016 version. Slightly hazy amber with a cream head. Looks big and grand. Somewhat boozy aroma of toffee, oak with vanilla, white pepper and quite a lot of coconut. Fullish bodied, but a little lighter than I'd have guessed. Some sharpish boozy notes interrupt a sweet sipper that's quite nicely tamed by firm oak and some lemon at the end. Pretty good.

Pours a clear gold, with a white head. Aroma of complex sugars and wood. Taste is complex, like a BA belgian. This is strong beer, but I’m not big on the style.

UPDATED: JUN 21, 2018 Way too boozey, with monolithic, bready malt and yeast and wheaty tartness coming together with the bourbon in a cloying way. Hard to finish the bottle, sort of gross to be honest.

2016 dated bottle. Pours hazy amber color with a creamy, 2-finger bone-colored head. Vanilla-wood aroma mixes with a tart, sour note. Body is medium-to-full with some oil to it. Lightly astringent finish. Light note of citrus quickly followed by oak, and some caramel from the bourbon.

2016 Edition--12.5% ABV. Big, sticky, gnarly wheatwine, a giant bourbon bomb packed with caramel and vanilla and brown sugar, starting sweet but slowly morphing into a fruity, boozy Belgian brute of a pint. Apple, dried apricot, fig, and sweet cherry show up towards the middle, while the back grows heavy with liquor and oak. Vanilla and clove accent the bourbon in the finish, while the fade is warm and sweet. A tad too sugary for my tastes, but I haven't stopped drinking this pint yet, so what do I know? Pours a thick, oozing amber-gold with a thin white head and spotty lacing. Full body has a tinge of heat, but it's a 12.5% beer, so why shouldn't it? Nose is more Belgian strong ale than barleywine. Not bad, but one pint's plenty.

Muggus69 (3694) - Yarram, Vic, AUSTRALIA - APR 13, 2018
750mL bottle from Carwyn Cellars 12.5% 2016 Edition Pours a generous white head atop a clear reddish-gold body. Did they say oak? PLENTY on the nose - like a freshly charred barrel; lots of pencil shaving, vanilla, toast, nutmeg, old butter, rich caramel malt, touch of marmalade hop. Plenty of weight, plenty of warmth, plenty of oak...adding its own sort of drying, tannic astringent quality to proceedings. Flavour explosion - so much to enjoy - vanilla in boats, pale caramel, toast, sultana, dried apricot, sour cream, pencil shaving (new oak) again - it sort of should be sweet but it's really not, has that oak driving it becoming woody, planky(?), spicy toward the finish, and of course that Bruery signature hint of booze that is likely to kick your ass later on. Oak AF - if that's not your thing stay away, or wait 5-10 years, I reckon this beer could go that distance too.
