Not the aroma I was expecting for an ipa, this one is clearly quite malty. Caramel prominent and sweet corn. Taste reveals a balanced blend of caramel malts and hops. I actually find this beer quite pleasent, but it’s not an ipa. VTHopHead (989), Barre, Vermont, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 27, 2009 Bottle - Pours a darkish amber in color with a small whitish head that faded to a thin covering over the beer. Aroma is of pine/citrus hops with a hint of maltiness. Flavor is a hefty mix of pine resin and grapefruit hops along with some caramel. Finish is short, clean and medium bitter. A decent IPA... | 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Sep 23, 2009 In short: A sweet caramelized kind-of-IPA with a soft (too soft) hopping. So-so.
How: Tap at brewpub
The look: Clear dark golden body topped by a very small off-white head
In long: The really-not-intense nose has notes of leafy hops and caramel. Taste is very much toasted bread with caramel. Notes of unsalted pretzels and brown sugar. Body is juicy without but without fruity flavours. The leafy hops provide a medium bite at the very finish but are quickly taken over by the sweet juicy caramel. Pleasant lively mouthfeel. Not bad but needed more assertive hopping to make it a more-than-one-pint beer. Happy 21rst birthy Gritty McDuff!!! But now it is illegal for you to screw with the younger Sebago brewpub next door. puboflyons (675), New Hampshire, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Sep 12, 2009 From the 12 fl. oz. bottle with an expiration date of February 2010. The pour is a cloudy but appealing amber with about a quarter inch foamy beige head and frothy lacing. The aroma of hops is balanced by caramel or something appealingly sweet. The mouthfeel is of medium texture and smooth. The taste is hoppy but not overly bitter. It tends to be more on the sweet side. This is the kind of IPA I tend to favor. sigma23 (349), , Maine, USA

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Sep 1, 2009 Spotty lacing-head. Almost clear golden body. Discreet aroma of floral hops. Juicy malts in flavour with a grainy-bitter aftertaste. Alright, but far from great. One-third pint, draught at GBBF, 04.08.2009.

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Aug 17, 2009 12oz bottle obtained as part of a four-pack purchased at Whole Foods in Portland, Maine. Pours a crystal-clear light amber body with a thin film of off-white head. Grapefruit, pine, and butterscotch dominate the aroma. Grapefruit, pith, lemon, grass, caramel, toffee, butterscotch... As feared, there is some diacetyl playing a role in this beer, but with so many bright bold pleasant flavors here, the diacetyl at worst fades into the background and at best plays well with many of the other flavors. A very solid IPA for sure and a slam dunk for Gritty’s.
