Commercial Description:
Southern Tier Iniquity is an Imperial Black IPA, which is also called an Imperial India Brown Ale. This is a style that seems to be increasing in popularity. The hexagram talisman has been used around the world for centuries to invoke magic and good luck. Wishes of good fortune often collaborate with the brewer’s creative to yield dramatic results. We carefully chose the name for this Imperial IBA, Iniquity - a word opposing goodness. Why? This beer is contrary to what one might expect from an IPA; this is an ale as black as night. It is the antithesis of Unearthly. Some may consider it an immoral act to blacken an ale. We suggest they don’t rely on conventional standards. Allow the darkness to consume you. Iniquity weighs in at 9% alcohol by volume. It uses four different hops and 2-row pale malt along with debittered black malt in it’s brewing.

Deep mahogany in color with a beige head. Grapefruit, pine, caramel malts in this poweful aroma. Full body with light carbonation. Citrus and pine hops, light roast, some dark malt flavors. An alcohol feel in the finish. Nice.

Tap at Hunahpu release. Deep dark black beer, aroma and flavor strongly of floral hops, with lots of roasted malts too. Long lingering bitterness. Not a huge fan of the style, but people who are would probably find this beer well done.

a black ipa interesting and pretty good. to me it tastes like a shwartz beer and an ipa mix. toasted malt with pine and cirus hops, and not to heavy of a body for a dark beer.

Draft at Dunedin House of Beer. Strong in flavor, similar to Dogfish brown. Although not quite as good. Would order again.

Pours reddish black with a thick white head. Slightly sweet malt, cola like, with huge floral hops in the aroma. Smooth sweet malt, roasted grain and nice hop bitterness in the taste. Very good brew.

On tap, Beer Temple, Amsterdam. Dusky black looks with a medium tan head. Nose had sweet malt, dark fruit, citrus and some grassy hop. Began sweetish, with roasted malt, chocolate and citrus flavours present at the table. Little booze kick towards the finish which was satisfyingly bitter. A new brewery to me, and a den of iniquity worth entering by way of an introduction.

22oz bottle. Pours an almost black with a beige head. Very fragrant. Aromas of raisin, citrus, burnt sugar, orange. Taste is sweet, major black licorice, molasses, flavourful citrus hop, faint cocoa. Finish is dark malt, and bitter citrus. A very full bodied ale. Doppel meets IPA. Very good.
