frankenkitty (1789), Oak Lawn, Illinois, USA Dec 21, 2005 An almost-tan head took a lifetime to settle over a dense, murky, brownish/copper-wheat body. Yeast particulate is diverse, from the silt that forms the haze to plastery chunks at the bottom, with little sea-monkeys bobbing about at mid-level. As far as the aroma, ’smoked banana’ smells much better than you’d imagine. Add to that roasted corn husks, clove, licorice and a touch of crawlspace (musty, earthen, moldiness). Flavor captures the hefeweizen essence of the aromas and sets it upon a substantially malted body... which gives a nice, hearty impression of a chocolate-covered banana. Thick, full-bodied and flavorful, with a creaminess in the mouth, it’s with beers like this that I can justify why ’Dunkelweizen’ is currently my favorite style.

Highly recommended. tedovertu (82), Apple Valley, Minnesota, USA Jul 8, 2008 Great beer. Gigantic creamy off-white head. Cloudy/hazy medium amber colored body. Aroma of hay and banana mixed with sweet biscuit. Medium bodied with a creamy mouth feel. Average duration with moderately sweet finish. Extremely well rounded and balanced. pepperford (66), robbinsdale, Minnesota, USA Jul 6, 2008 my first dunkel weisse. a murky/cloudy body. sweet smelling with a bit of biscuit. sweet and almost bready tasting. round in the mouth feel. Scauca (203), Lovere, Italy Jul 3, 2008 Hazy orange with a nice head. Aroma of banana, bread, slightly fruity. Very thin body. Fruity. Not my beer. durhambeer (314), Durham, North Carolina, USA Jul 2, 2008 500ml bottle. Beautiful pour--deep bright cloudy amber--with a foamy off-white head. A treat to look at. Yeast and malt on the nose, with mild fruit (banana, apricot maybe) and a sense of fresh-baked sourdough bread. Similar palate... tickling bubbles on the upper lip and tastes of slightly underripe bananas, fresh bread, yeast. Clean and easy to drink, with a surprisingly crisp finish. I actually wanted a bit of a lingering aftertaste, but almost none is present. Subtle but solid. May cause some to think there’s not much too this beer, but I give it props for its understatement.
