lemonlovr (187), Lockport, Illinois, USA Oct 31, 2004 Aroma is fruity, sweet, and alcoholic, specifically grapes and caramel sweetness. Appearance is good - deep amber in color with a rather thin light tan head and some lacing. The flavor is fantastic and covers up the overriding taste of alcohol very well. Sweet fruit up front with a roasted malt finish with all of the chocolate overtones that you’d expect. There’s a slight hint of banana as well. The alcohol creates a burning sensation on the way down but my mouth is so preoccupied with everything else that I hardly notice the burn. A very nice brew.
Ober (1186), Bommelerwaard, Netherlands Nov 14, 2009 A clear dark red/brown colored beer, with a small beige head. The aroma of sweet fruits like apricot with malts and alcohol. The taste is fruity, like apricot/peach. It’s sticky with a lot of alcohol. The aftertaste is bitter with honey sweets and a full taste. TeamTrappist (378), jericho, New York, USA Nov 10, 2009 Bottle. Thanks Taylor. Poured a copper hue with a thin off white head. Nose is strong and sweet with alcohol with a hint of sour. No sour in the flavor, which is big, way big. For this abv this is very drinkable. Very sweet, and very strong, but very tasty. Its like whiskey beer, but not quite. Some carbonation. Really good Tripplebrew (490), Saint Paul, Minnesota, USA Nov 8, 2009 Pours a clear reddish copper with very little head. Aroma is largely alcohol. flavor is oak and alcohol. The alcohol notes over pour most other flavors and aromas. Body is light. hayduke (1629), Eureka, California, USA Nov 5, 2009 Updated: Nov 6, 2009Thanks Strykzone for this fascinating brew. From a 12 oz bottle this four year old (2005 bottling) poured a very dark brown with a large bubbled tan head and good lacing rings. You can smell this from six feet away with a big nose of fermented raisins, and alcohol. Mouthfeel is slick and oily and the body is fairly heavy. The flavor is more like Creme Sherry than beer and the finish is surprisingly mild considering the high alcohol content. A very unique and quite remarkable beer. You sip this one, and it was enjoyable from start to finish. DuffManSW (285), Riverside, California, USA Oct 31, 2009 2005 Bottle thanks to Cletus...Pours chestnut brown with light tan head...Aroma is very sweet with honey, and raisins...The Flavors have blended very well with the 4+ years this bottle has on it. Starts off sweet end finishes with a burnt sugar flavor. No alcohol burn seeing how this a 15% beer. Thick with low to medium carbonation. Great beer. sunevdj (1770), Copenhagen OE, Denmark Oct 19, 2009 Vintage 2006 bottle shard with Theis. Pours a clear reddish brown with an off white head and lacings. Smells woody and fruity ( a bit like wet wood). Extremely sweet with aromas of dates and raisins. Very full bodied. Soft carbonation. Quite dry finish with warming alcohol notes. beernovice39 (256), South Carolina, USA Oct 15, 2009 Updated: Oct 16, 2009My 200th!! 2009 15.07abv. Pours a very pretty dark red/amber. Thick creamy white head. Smell of sweet malts and honey. Taste is way strong for my liking but it is complex and full flavored. Taste the booze but the 15% is hidden well. Wanted something cool for #200 and at $10 this one is it. Hopper (295), San Antonio, Texas, USA Oct 15, 2009 An unclear reddish-brown beer with absolutely no head. The aroma was sweet, alcohol, fruity, & glue. The taste is like sweet syrup, very up front, in your face powerful taste- like the beast on the bottle. Taste like an over the top Barley wine, too sweet for my liking, which I think suggests some considerable ageing would do this wonders. This is the second hyper style beer that I’ve had that tastes & smells like glue, I find that strange & maybe it is me.
