Yayforbeer gave me the hint these badbwoys were collecting dust up @ Total Wine. So I hopped on in the badass mobile and raced up there after work to grab the last 3. Having had the 11 a year ago, I figure the age besets well. One for now, one for later, and one for that day I know I’ll need it. Pours out into a tulip bleeding colours mixed in the debths were maudite dwells after la fin du monde claims thee. Nose hits of sweet candied malts and fruits race forward beckoning one farther into the sinful nature of those who find pleasure in creature comforts. Peeled oranges, lemons, yeast, some dark fruits are offered as if I was the God Dionysus. And fitting of the bottle size and I quote the: Three kraters do I mix for the temperate: one to health, which they empty first, the second to love and pleasure, the third to sleep. When this krater is drunk up, wise guests go home. The fourth bowl is ours no longer, but belongs to hubris, the fifth to uproar, the sixth to prancing about, the seventh to black eyes, the eighth brings the police, the ninth belongs to vomiting, and the tenth to insanity and the hurling of furniture. Please besets all when loosely translated, no man cometh uncomforted. .............Listening to Morning Child off the new 4 hero album.

BB log, Bottle from Canals Mt Ephraim, pours a murky golden copper shade with a decent sized head and alright lacing. Smell and taste are candy sugar, coriander, nutmeg, belgian fruit: plum, apples, and pear. Some honey and green pepper as it warms up a bit. Too much alcohol bite on this one

Bouteille. [notes 2006]

Pours a hazy dark golden orange color with tangerine edges and a half finger off-white head that quickly settles into a thin, lasting ring. Spotty lacing left behind. Slightly funky, earthy aroma with a decent balance of zesty spice, bready yeast, grassy hops and estery light fruit notes. Some pepper and clove followed by hints of bread, banana and bubblegum. Subtle earthy straw/hay character along with more banana, pear and apple. Seems to have held up well and still smells pretty nice. On the fuller end of medium bodied with tight carbonation and a slight creamy texture. Heavily spiced up front with some pepper, clove and coriander lingering over the musty funk, bready yeast, light fruit and earthy hop notes into a dry, slightly tart finish. Strong bread/yeast presence with sourdough flavor followed by sweet banana, apple and pear flavors. Some earthy, grassy hops toward the end of the palate balance things out and prevents it from becoming too sweet. There’s also some subtle alcohol sweetness in the finish but the high ABV is very well masked. I didn’t know what to expect going in but this beer has held up surprisingly well. Complex, flavorful and well balanced. Very slight oxidization but is still drinking very smoothly and the high alcohol content is toned down, giving off little to no heat. I’m having no problem going through this 750ml rather quickly.

750 ml bottle from old notes. Pours a cloudy golden honey amber color with a medium plus sized creamy beige head. The aroma and flavor have sweet malts, caramel, Belgian yeast with that Unibroue character, citrus, apples, wood, mild spices, doughy bread, ok but not as good as some of their best.

Bottle (750 ml). Acquired via trade. Hazy golden with a small quickly collapsing white head and no lacing. Aroma is slightly fruity with Madeira, cardboard and spices. Taste is slightly to moderately sweet with fruity notes, brown sugar, cardboard and Madeira.. Medium body. Low carbonation. This beer was supposed to have been well stored but that’s doubtful considering how bad it was. Definitely past is prime.

From the corked bottle. Interesting the layer of sediment on the side from side storage over a year ago...it’s still clinging on. Lots of sediment visible at the bottom. Poured into a medium Duvel tulip glass. Significant cork pop. Pours an amber - copper color. Aroma of sweet malts and honey. Moderate carbonation and mouthfeel. Flavors of powder sugar, caramel, sweet malts, honey, slight white pepper, alcohol, flowery spices. Overall big and flavorful with the alcohol mostly subdued, but a slight touch of oxidation. Has held up very well with aging since 2006.

Huge beer with tons of plums, chocolate, caramel, nuts, and earthy leathery notes. medium/high sweetness with a dry finish that is very boozy. Good but a bit harsh.

Maybe one of my oldest beers, aroma is fresh, bready and belgian. Boozy and rich. Alcohol burns the finish
