PapaSkeetSkeet (36), , Massachusetts, USA Jun 26, 2009 Aroma contains loads of chocolate, some coffee and burnt sugar notes. Nice. Pours Dark Chocolate brown, tan creamy head. Good Carbonation. Flavor is not nearly as full as aroma suggests, but what is there is good, creamy, chocolaty. Sweetness is well balanced by hops, but again, could be much more pungent. Mmmm I find the words for this review are just coming naturally, good impression. Will get more from this brewer. Lowe1983 (1012), Fairborn, Ohio, USA Jun 15, 2009 Pours a dark brown color with a tan head. Roasted malts, chocolate, slight coffee and some caramel malts dominate the aroma. Flavor is roasted malts and chocolate mostly. Subtle tone on the flavor and little carbonation. Good but not my favorite porter by a long shot. larsga (2772), Oslo, Norway Jun 15, 2009 Biggish beige shiny head. Barely translucent dark red body. Sugary caramelly aroma with wooden licorice notes, very harmonic. Dry-sweetish milky licorice taste with roasty resiny notes. Thinnish body. Mild mouthfeel. Dry watery metallic roasty licorice aftertaste. Quite nice, but slightly watery. Could use a bit more body. Should probably be served at room temperature for best results. (0.5l bottle, Olympen, Oslo.) jefcon (947), Arlington, Virginia, USA Jun 12, 2009 Pours a leathery brown color with a slight off-white head. Aromas are nutty, yeasty bread dough, some chocolate, and ripe red fruits. This beer has one of those light, shimmering mouthfeels with a lot of complex flavors. Coffee, chocolate, toasted oats and some acidity. If the palate was as warm and friendly as those flavors, it would be a lot better beer. As it is, not bad. OD40oz (544), Box Elder, South Dakota, USA May 17, 2009 I was pretty amped to try this one. Pours a deep brown with a off white head. Caramel coffee aroma with some lacing. This had more of a belgian taste than I was expecting. Not bad though it was not as good as I expected it would be. CanIHave4Beers (561), Des Moines, Iowa, USA May 15, 2009 Pours a nice deep reddish brown, almost a chocolate like color with a nice billowy head and some good lace. The aroma is akin to a creamy milk chocolate and a little coffee. The flavor is many things, and most of them work together. The porter is fairly robust with plenty of roasty coffee flavors and some odd fruity, cherry like, and vinious flavors. There is a bit of cardboard too but it might just be a mistreated bottle. Overall it’s a fairly dry porter with a pretty low hoppiness, enjoyable if not terribly exciting. livelaughlovep (90), Lakewood, Ohio, USA May 14, 2009 Burnt coffee and caramel malt, toasted coffee and a hint of sour tang throughout. Not bad. Geiserich (1714), Vienna, Austria May 11, 2009 Bottle: Aroma with roasted malt and dark fruits. Dark brown color, off-white foamy head. Flavor is light caramelic, roasty with hints of coffee and burnt coffee beans. Light astringent, sourly finish and bitterness of roasted malt and dark chocolate.
