3.7 The Botanist Nemophila Dark brown. Toffeeish but hoppy. Earthy and slightly berryish tartness. Good, kind of like a mild. Interesting pocket of beer exploring the gap between mild and porter. Thursday, January 23, 2014

3.5 The Botanist Night Porter Looks and smells like the business - A lovely dark creamy-chocolate consistency and colour with a swirling horlicks-like head. Nice smooth flavour which lacks any punch, and it’s very slightly too acidic. Moderately long and pleasant finish with a good balance between nuts and chocolate. I think it could stand up to a higher ABV to give it a better taste/aroma, but it’s a decent porter that could definitely stand up to a chocolate brownie. Sunday, December 1, 2013

3 The Botanist Pumpkin Ale Personally I wasn’t a fan of this, but it’s fair to say it had a great pumpkin flavour whilst remaining light and spicy. Lovely orange appearance with minimal head. Fairly light aroma which is earthy and herby. The taste and palate were too light, and not malty enough to evoke autumn, and there was a sweetness which I feel it could have done without. Pumpkin Pie Ale would be a more appropriate title, and I think the sweetness makes it too overpowering to have more than a pint. Sunday, December 1, 2013

2.8 The Botanist Maximus Tasted on cask at the Brewpub in Kew. Pours a cloudy dark, greeny red with minimum head in a schooner pint glass. Not very appealing to look at. The aroma is herby hops and woody. Both smell and taste are a bit of a mishmash of a red and pale ale - plenty of bitterness mixed with plant and herb - maybe even some vanilla on the finish. Quaffable and a smooth finish given the chaos within the glass. Curious. Sunday, December 1, 2013

2.9 The Botanist OK Bitter Tasted on cask at the Kew Brewpub. Pours with a small foamy head and a deliciously dark malty colour. Smells like butter toffee, lighter than it looks. Alongside the traditional bitter malty mouthful it tastes moderately floral and olive oily - not particularly pleasant, and leaves a slightly odd aftertaste. Perfectly drinkable bitter but not one I’d return to. Sunday, December 1, 2013

2.5 The Botanist Maximus Cask at the Botanist, Kew, 15/11/13. Lightly hazed reddish amber with a good sized light beige head that retains well - a handsome looking beer. Nose is dark fruit, lightly acidic qualities, sharp apple skins, bready malt, spice. Taste comprises sharp orchard fruits, toffee apple, spicey biscuit crumble, slightly acetic. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, dry soured fruit finale. As per Brians review the day before there was something not quite right with this one. Saturday, November 16, 2013

2.4 The Botanist Maximus Cask at the Botanist, odd tart and vegetal-acrid nose, flavour is a not pleasant mix of acid sourness, fruity malt and sharp acrid bitterness. Something wrong, methinks. Shame, as there won’t be any more. Thursday, November 14, 2013

3.4 The Botanist Pumpkin Ale Cask at the Botanist, probably the last beer brewed here. Pours a deep honey-brown with a fine white ring, distinctive aroma of pumpkin pie filling - vegetal and spicy. Well balanced honey-malt, pumpkin and spice body, sweet yet dry, very nice. Thursday, November 14, 2013

2.8 The Botanist Chocolat Cask at the Botanist, dark reddish black with a thin crema, chocolate and old wine nose, faint tartness on the palate along with more wine and red fruit notes and a bit more choc. Dry musty and burnt-bitter finish. Rather interesting, but doesn’t quite hang together somehow. Thursday, October 24, 2013
