Big Choice Obeah Caribbean Imperial Stout
16oz can with resealable top. The appearance is super black like used motor oil with a thin dark brown head. Rich aroma of dark chocolate, molasses, dark woody rum & roasted grain. Full flavored sweeter style stout. Layers of flavor - cacao, anise, sweet booze, chocolate and tobacco.

Big Choice 10,000 Summers Saison
Canned. Clear copper with a medium off-white head that has poor retention. The aroma is faint with dust, white fruits and some Belgian yeast. The taste is weak and washed out with mild fruits, minerals, light peppery spices and some bready yeast. The palate is rather thin. Finishes short and dry. Overall: meh, I make a better Saison.

Big Choice West Portal Colorado Common
16 oz single can for $2.75 from the Craft Beer Cellar - Fort Collins. Slightly hazed golden-orange appearance with an off-white head and light lacing. Pleasant aroma of toasted grain and zesty hops. Similar flavor, fresh, juicy, mild zesty hop bitterness and light malty sweetness. Light bodied with a crisp, pretty clean feel and a light hoppy finish. I feel like I crush a few of these pretty easily.

Sample at Collaboration Fest on 03/19/2016, 2 chocolate-orange beers in a row. Pours a slightly hazy golden color with a thin white head that evaporates quickly to a film. Spotty lacing. Aroma of citrus, wheat and chocolate. Light-bodied with flavors of herbal wheat, citrus and sweet chocolate. The finish is creamy with a chocolate and orange aftertaste. Decent overall.

Big Choice / Black Bottle Split 7"
On tap at Black Bottle. Clear golden appearance with a diminishing white head. Odd aroma of toasted grain, chocolate and a hint of something like dirty diaper. The flavor is better, cocoa and orange peel with a creamy feel and a light body. Not bad once you get past the aroma.

Big Choice Punktoberfest
12 oz. can. Pours hazy brown, with a small, beige head. The nose is caramel, almonds and syrup, with an off aroma of cough medicine. Sweet and a little unpleasantly sour. Light to medium body, smooth and creamy, and a little clingy. This is a significantly off beer; this is clearly my punishment for buying an Oktoberfest in January. Hopefully, itís better fresh.

Big Choice #42 Poblano Stout
Can from Bubbles in Castle Rock, CO. Pours dark, opaque brown with light beige head. Aroma of a typical stout, except for the strong poblano notes that are a bit too overpowering. The overall flavor is ruined for me by the power of the poblano. Not for me.

Big Choice Obeah Caribbean Imperial Stout
Pint can. Lemon and lime citrus aroma with notes of rum, jerk spice, a bit of chocolate and oak notes. Pours dark brown with a thin light brown head with poor retention and lacing. Starts with lime citrus flavors with a bit of lemon with a hint of rum to go with a light body. Finishes smooth with jerk spice and some chocolate, oak and some booze. Good stout that breaks the definition of a typical imperial stout by being light and refreshing.

Big Choice ApreShred Winter Ale
Can, aged 1 year, deep dark yet clear amber with a largy foamy off white head. Nutty and christmas spice-y aroma with lots of cinnamon/nutmeg, vanilla, chestnut, light booze, raisin, date, perhaps a little apple, and a wee hint of wood. Smooth and surprisingly quaffable flavor with chestnuts, gently boozy amber malts, a touch of raisin, clove, nutmeg, and honey. Really lovely.

Can. Clear dark reddish brown with a tan head that lasts in a ring and laces. Aromas of smoke, allspice, peppers, clove, cinnamon, beef jerky, rum, roasted malt, and a light chocolate. Flavor is the same. Medium bodied, smooth with a warm end. An odd combination of smoke, spice, roastiness and sweetness. Not my thing.

Big Choice Obeah Caribbean Imperial Stout
Poured from a can (with a silly top). Pours dark dark brown, basically black, you can?t see through it at all. Little tan head. Lots going on in the smell, BBQ and jerk aromas dominate, but I can?t help but notice a slight clarinet reed smell. Smooth mouth feel with little carbonation. Jerk flavors carry through in the taste, with some smokiness, and a bit of a chocolatey finish. Overall, very well done and unique, the jerk taste of just a bit too much. Very complex with lots going on. A great beer to share and discuss with others.

On tap at Stacks in Pueblo. Pour is deep brown, almost black with a small tan head and good lacing. Cocoa, coffee, toasted bread, green peppers, earthy, and caramelly aroma. Taste is cocoa, espresso, roasted bread, green peppers, earthy, lightly grassy, and toffee with a light bitter finish. Medium body with light carboantion. Not bad, but a bit light and I wish it had more of a pepper presence.

Big Choice Punktoberfest
Can. Head is initially small, frothy, off-white to light brown, mostly diminishing. Body is dark amber. Aroma is moderately malty (caramel), lightly hoppy (apricot), lightly to moderately yeasty (sweat, dough), with notes of prunes, grape juice, corn syrup, plastic. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, watery/syrupy texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic. This brewery is apparently still struggling to produce clean products. This isnít even close to a Maerzen, and Iím even skeptical itís a lager. Itís quite dump-bucket-ish in the nose, at a tasting that included fruit beers, and the raw yeast odor is pretty unpleasant all by itself. An unquestionable drain pour.

Big Choice #42 Poblano Stout
12 oz. can. Pours a thin, poorly retained, light beige head, over a clear dark brown (SRM 30) body.....nose is light roasted malts, with cocoa, chocolate, minimal coffee, slight Chile......taste is slightly sweet, with cocoa, chocolate notes from the roasted malts, light chile heat, slight smoke, very slight bitter on the finish......mouth feel, light body, no alcohol, high carbonation. The Poblano was used with a very light hand, and is only lightly present. The malts and hops were also used conservatively resulting in a very light Stout. BJCP 7/3/12/4/6

Can. Lightly hazed amber with a thin ring of a head. Oddball nose is Vienna malt (toffee and apples), chemical cleaner / bleach, maybe some kind of acetone resemblance (faint), with notes of corn, nuts, fermenting cider, fusels, possible faint DMS. Medium-light bodied, syrupy, thin, watery, flabby, goopy and lifeless. Over-caramelized malt tastes like burnt pancake batter and burnt malt extract syrup when boiled on an electric stove top. Finishes lightly bitter with notes of autolyzed yeast (peanuts, mud). Unfinished and raw... hilarious that they say "finishes clean" on the can.

From my dear brother in a can: Pours black with a tan head. Aroma is poblano peppers and some chocolate. There is a definite peppery taste going throughout, and, as the can promises, there is no spiciness to be had. This makes for an interesting take on the pepper beer. It isnít bad. It is perfectly drinkable. Would be interesting to see other kinds of beers with poblanos (apparently a bunch exist, but none in mass market circulation).
