Thuis op 17-04-2024 mijn nieuwsgierige smaakpapillen ermee in slaap gewiegd op 17-04-2024. Tora Tora wordt gebrouwen door De Struise Brouwers uit Oost-Vleteren in hun eigen brouwerij VDACO. Struise heeft zijn naam te danken aan de plaats waar hun eerste bieren in 2001 ontwikkeld werden, een oud schuurtje op een struisvogelboerderij in Lo-Reninge. Sinds 2012 brouwen ze hun bier in een eigen pand. Deze TORA TORA is een hersenspinsel van David Rogiers van Holy Beer House die een mooi lot Belgische jenevervaten meebracht en die liet vullen met een krachtig bier: de Kill & Destroy natuurlijk, (hetzelfde bier werd gebruikt om de Kamikaze te produceren). ‘Tora Tora’ is Japans en betekent ‘verrassingseffect’. Als je dit bier proeft, begrijp je direct waarom het zo heet. TORA TORA is een helder donker-amber bier dat slechts weinig beige schuim aanmaakt in de vorm van heel wat grove bellen. Het blijft ook maar zwak aan je glaswand kleven en zakt snel in elkaar tot het helemaal weg gaat. In de bodemrand van de fles zie je nog een gistdepot. En er zijn maar weinig fijne CO2 belletjes zichtbaar. Het bier wordt wazig als je de laatste cm mee uitschenkt. HET AROMA: Zoetig, kandij, beetje karamel, alcohol. DE SMAAK: Zeer licht bitterig, zoet, alcohol en veel jenever dringen samen de neus binnen. HET MONDGEVOEL: Volle body met een romige textuur, licht bitterdroog, medium koolzuurprikkeling. DE NASMAAK: Het weinige bittere vloeit lang uit samen met een lichte jenever tint. Veel alcohol die de neus binnendringt, zoetig. HET TOTAALGEVOEL: Een complex bier. HET VERDICT: Dit overtreft de Kamikaze net niet, maar ik hou dan ook meer van Bourbon dan van Jenever. Maar zeker lekker. Veel zoetigheid maar net niet teveel. Mijn eerste bier toch waar ik de alcohol tijdens de smaak en ook in de nasmaak voel binnendringen in de neus. Flavour of prune and caramel. Medium body with a slick texture. Soft fizz. A strong, tasty beer. jybi	3.9 Struise Pannepøt - Old Monk's Ale - Pannepeut Même si les noms se ressemblent, le rendu entre une Pannepeut et une Pannepot est très différent. Et ma préférence est claire et va à la Pannepot. Le coupable : une acidité sur la Pannepeut qui casse les arômes, qui ne permet pas une plénitude et une puissance de la bière. On n'en reste pas moins sur une bière de qualité, De Struise oblige. En verre nous sommes sur un brun (80 d'EBC) quasi sans effervescence et sans mousse. Le nez est sympathique sur le raisin, le chocolat, le caramel, la figue, les fruits confits, la poire, la coriandre et le girofle avec un alcool bien présent. On est alors proche de la Pannepot. En bouche, c'est une tout autre histoire...où une petite acidité surprend. Celle-ci donne de la fraîcheur et ne fait pas du tout ressentir les 10 %, mais on perd en plénitude et en puissance. Une petite aigreur et astringence sont également présentes. Des arômes de vinaigre de framboise font également leur apparition. Mais il n'y a pas photo...je vote Pannepot ! Saturday, April 6, 2024

Pours hazy conker brown in colour with a creamy textured conker coloured head. Bourbon on the nose, but not too boozy. Surprised at how easy drinking this is, warming, a little spicy edge, and moderate dryness at the finish. Marvellous, particularly good as it slowly warms and reveals more. Thursday, April 4, 2024

Maris	3.6 Struise Black Albert From a 330ml bottle on 2/4/2024 (vintage 2020). Pours a deepest brown with virtually no head. Has a light chocolate nose with some hints of coffee. Tastes of bitter dark chocolate, caramel, licorice, dark/dry fruit and a good dash of soy. Finishes with a strong, lingering, boozy, slightly chemical tasting bitterness. The body is thinner than expected and the mouthfeel oily, with softish carbonation. With the huge rep, I was expecting something special but it's actually pretty underwhelming. Aroma is full of deep dark fruits — lots of prunes, dates — and sherry-like oxidation; no notice of the bourbon. Flavour is strange, with sherry-like oxidation, some tart red fruits, plenty of bitterness, no bourbon. Man, this just falls totally flat — bitter, tart, fruity; not complex and not well-rounded. DraftDodger	3.3 Struise Holy Beer House Tora Tora Copenhagen 15/3 2024. 33 cl bottle from Den Belgiske Ølbutik, Jyllingevej, Vanløse. A studded globe on the dark label with some Asian signe in front. Pours opaque, murky brown with a small off-white head. Stable. Settles as thin patch of foam unable of covering the surface of the beer. Moderate lacing. Aroma is intense with a strong sweet, sugary odor mingling with sharp alcohol. Brown sugar, toffee. Sweet bourbon and boozy juniper in abundance. Low carbonation. Slightly thick, oil soft, greasy, flat texture. Flavor is intense with a heavy, boozy sweetness followed by a medium strong bitterness. Aftertaste is sugary with a strong, prominent presence of alcohol. A bit searing. Lingering. Finish is fairly dry. Potent and overly sweet with an overpowering presence of alcohol. mcberko	3.8 Struise Black Damnation X - Double Wood 330mL bottle, pours black with almost no head. Nose is quite woody, with gentle sherry-like oxidation, gentle whiskey, and a touch of roast. Flavour is very barrel-forward, with lots of generic woodiness, lightly smoked whiskey, some sherry, and a light roasted base. Finishes dry, woody, with both the whiskey and sherry showcasing. Carbonation is basically flat, which isn’t ideal but the complexity is there to be appreciated. For a 15%er, this doesn’t drink that massively. Very nice. Thursday, March 14, 2024

Flavour is dominated by the Speyside barrels, with plenty of smoky whiskey barrels upfront, followed by moderate roast, some iodine, a touch of soy sauce, light dry cocoa, and gentle dark sugars. biilz	3.9 Struise Blue Monk Special Reserve (Bottled) Пил версия с большой выдержкой, аромат прям на стыке стаута и темного эля. Темные фрукты и слива ощущаются как в имперском стауте, как будто намеки на кофе, немного дымки. Цвет черный, пенки почти нету. Вкус с весьма сильной дымкой, что удивляет, есть снова темные фрукты, шоколад снова как в стауте, небольшая сладость от бочки в конце. Al naso intense note tostate, di caffè, liquirizia, cioccolato, etilica. In bocca è dolce all'attacco con amaro in chiusura piuttosto lungo e persistente, molto etilica, legno. Le goût est riche, complexe, très rôti, très café avec des notes de caramel-réglisse, tabac, épices, fruité de raisin sec et myrtille, coco, pointe vanillée, vieux tonneau et le tout encore parfumé de Rhum.
