Wednesday, April 10, 2024

4 St. Peter's Cream Stout (Bottled) 500ml bottle from Whole Foods in a Pretentious Sequel glass. Aromas of malted milk balls, sawdust and butyric acid with hints of molasses, chocolate and candied red fruit. Pours inky black with three fingers of foamy tan head with good retention and a little light lacing. Light, sweet and creamy on entry with satisfying, robust maltiness on the mid-palate. Moderately long finish with some ash, dark chocolate and medium roast with a hint of marshmallows. Full-blooded with good carbonation, slightly sticky on the gums, easy to drink but very filling. I've wanted to try this one for years and very pleased to finally have the opportunity! Only the porter and grapefruit usually come to this part of the country for some reason? Pretty dry for something labeled as cream stout, and very heavy, but the nose is really unique and rustic and the overall balance of flavor and texture is remarkable and impressive. Way too late to the party, but I finally see what everybody's talking about. Cheers, lads! Sunday, March 10, 2024

2.8 St. Peter's Honey Porter Dark brown with a creamy, beige head that lingers. Aroma of honey, very dominant, with hints of Tootsie Roll. Interesting but less than enthralling. Taste is sweet, full of honey, with mild, roasted bitter undertones. Body to the light side of medium, decent chewiness. Too much honey in the mix and too one-dimensional. Drinkable in modest portions though. Monday, November 20, 2023
