MartinT (4373), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Apr 9, 2005 The Lure: On a filtered bronze-tinted gold lingers a sumptuous head. A freshly malted cereal aroma mingles with subdued grassy hops and a light lactic drop.
The Festivities: Soft carbonation leaves way to a hoppy hay and a fast-fading finish. A very cleanly-brewed lager offering a nice malt husk crispness and a wooden hoppy dryness. Reaching for the macro crowd, its familiarity and humility could sway the Gaspésiens and Madelinots to the micro world with proper marketing.
Transcendence: Far out in the country, simplicity is the root of pride.
MrManning (1449), London, Ontario, Canada May 23, 2008 Bottle courtesy of Hogtownharry. Decants from the bottle, a pale and sparkling gold with a one finger of white fizz. The aroma is sugar and grains with shortbread cookies and straw, and hints at yeast. The flavour profile is surprisingly sweet and shows grains, bread crust, fruit and doughy accents. Average carbonation and a decent finish with a bit too much residual sugar. Standard stuff. Thanks Harry! willblake (1942), Long Branch, New Jersey, USA Apr 29, 2008 20071025 Bottled Feb 07. Pale gold, thin white head. Aroma is bready, white toast, bit of cantaloupe. Flavor has light citrus bite, mineral, salty. Wet graininess. Not particularly good or refreshing which pretty much defeats the purpose of the style. IrishBoy (2154), Bakersfield, California, USA Mar 16, 2008 341ml bottle from HogtownHarry; Nose of sweet corn with a little skunkiness; clear gold with a medium yellowish head; flavor a little sweet with graininess and a tiny bit of background hops. beerbiere (100), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Feb 17, 2008 Bright gold, small head. Nose of corn, fresh hay, metal and a hint of iode. Sweetness reminiscent of corn, and a metallic bitterness saved by a hint of saltiness. Body is on the light side. I agree with MDS, it lacks precision. If it weren’t for the saltiness, it would otherwise be plain boring.
