Bottle. Head is initially average sized, frothy, brown, mostly diminishing. Body is opaque black (flashlight tested), bottle conditioned. Aroma is moderately malty (roasted grain, dark chocolate/cocoa), lightly yeasty (cobwebs), with a light note of anise, hints of cassis and charred wood. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, velvety texture, lively carbonation. Very enjoyable, though a bit restrained. Tartness is a little strong and not entirely pleasant, but it’s a minor point. Aroma is shy beyond the basic malt character, but it’s nice enough. Probably wouldn’t buy this again, but I drank the whole bottle so that’s saying something.

Bottle shared by Crosling, thanks man. Poured a deep brown color with a thick beige, Belgian-esque head that stuck around nicely. Aroma of light chocolate malt, some soft caramel, some cream/lacto, and some dark fruits due to the Belgian yeast character with some light hops. Smooth, moderately sweet entry with some chocolate and a light caramel character that lead into some dark fruits (plum, fig) due to the yeast and a moderate undertone of roasted coffee on the finish. Medium carbonation and moderate bite on the palate. Solid beer for sure.

Tremendous looking beer that could only come from Belgium. Bountiful, large, beautiful head that lasts for a long time in the glass. Almost alarmingly aromatic, with hints of dark roast and ripe dark fruit, as well as hints of leather and cocoa. Flavor has some complexity to it, with notes of sour fruits, roast and chocolate. Highly complex, deeply flavored stout.

Ah, this one rises to the occasion like Jack Nicholson just entered the room. A lofty semi creamy head slowly recedes from a standing ovation after a long, slow pour of this blackish liquid. Superb lacing tells the story of the breweries intent. Mild aromas of roasted coffee bean. Medium nectar with soft yet ample effers creating a downy pillow softness on the palate. A moderate malt backbone sustains the brew as an equally effective roasted coffee component lends the needed balance. Collateral flavors are few and far between although there is a sense of freshness with some tannin, if you will, from a dried cherry skin contraption. The finish is bittered well leaving the palate ready for more.

Bottle @ KBF in Geel. This beer really amazed me. Pours black with a beige/brown head. Strong sweet aroma of roasted malts, laurel, liquorice, some dark fruits. Flavour is the same, with a nice bitter roasted finish and some chocolate. Sticky and oily palate. Very tasty beer!

Bottle from John’s Marketplace in Portland, OR. Pours really black with a frothy, multi-finger tan head. Aromas of dark toasted malt and slightly spicy hop. Full bodied with frothy, creamy carbonation. Flavor is bitter from burnt malt, some malt sugar, and I think some noble hop. Suddenly lots of chocolate can be noticed. It’s not really sweet, and it’s decently bitter. Flavor just goes on and on.

750mL bottle, courtesy of argo0. Thanks, Aaron! Gusher! Huge amounts of foam and head formation; pours a very dark chocolate-brown color; huge light-tan head with good retention and mixed-bubbled lacing. Basic, lightly toasted malts, roasted malts, and bitter chocolate in the aroma; a very slight, stalky vegetal note; dry and crisp, if a bit under-pronounced. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: lots of roasted malts (soft edges), bitter chocolate, and lots of dark / milk chocolate maltiness; very significant, pronounced, yummy chocolate character; again, especially dry, lightly toasty, and very drinkable stuff; enjoyable, sessionable stout. Lengthy finish: dark chocolate, light bitterness, and roasted malts; soft, mouthcoating.
