Clear dark brown colour, low frothy head. Chocolate and menthol in aroma. Good balance of noble hops and darker malts. There is a nice touch of milk chocolate here. Bit vineous with dried fruits. mabel (2530), Toronto, Ontario, Canada May 21, 2008 [1148-20080301] Bottle. HP steak sauce aroma has a bit of dark boozy malt. Dark brown black body with a quick foamy light brown head. Dark roasted smoky steak sauce continues in flavour with a hint of flower in its sour finish. Full body. Nice stout, repeatable.
(ZBF 2008; Sint Niklaas, BE) DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA May 12, 2008 Bottle from State Line. Pours dark brown/blackish with 3-finger light brown head. Nose is dry roasty malt, chocolate, nuts, brown sugar. Tastes on the dry side of the stout spectrum initially, having notes of dark malt, mild rauchy notes, mild cherry notes, and brown sugar and nuts. Fairly complex throughout, and the bottle I had stayed rather dry during its entire life cycle, with some rauchy elements coming and going. Not bad at all. Wim (1278), Turnhout, Belgium Apr 6, 2008 black coloured body with a off white head a malty drop coffee aroma a malty grainy chocolat taste and a special bitter finich Yves (1000), Beerse, Belgium Apr 2, 2008 Certainly a black beer with diminishing off white head. Malty aroma like burned coffee. Full palate. Finish is at first smoky then sweeter ending bit more malty. A very good one.
