Oakes (6979), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Dec 20, 2001 Updated: Aug 4, 2004Golden-amber colour. Toasty, berryish aroma with hay-like hop notes. Crisp body with a good dose of grassy hops. Dry, hoppy finish. bark (255), Linköping, Sweden Oct 2, 2004 The colour is clear, pale yellow and the foam is low, thick and white with small bubbles. The foam dissolves into a thin white lid over the liquid.
The smell is quite straightforward; a fresh flavour of somewhat burned malt and some dry hops.
The carbon dioxide is short and balanced, just right for a German-type Pilsner.
The taste starts with a fine bitterness that mixes with a soft, sweetish taste of malt. The aftertaste is bitter with a small hint of sweetness and white bread.
This is, in a few words, an uncomplicated Pilsner with a no-nonsense approach to things. Perfect on a warm summer night!
A note on the name:
When this beer was introduced in the early 90’s, the name was "Wiesgickl", the surname of the master brewer
at Åbro Brewery who developed this beer in his own taste. The
story goes that a market study showed that some cusomers didn’t
order the brewery’s prestige beer for fear of mispronouncing the
German name. Shortly thereafter, the name of the beer was changed to "Bryggmästarens (bästa pilsner)", "The Master Brewer’s (best Pilsner)". pilsnerrogge (1609), Finspång, Sweden Jan 28, 2002 Nice bitterness in this one. larsniclas (3034), Gothenburg, Sweden Jul 1, 2003 Pale golden, light frothy head; freshlooking.
Hop and perfume in the aroma and flavour.
Fine bitterness and seetness. omhper (10728), Stockholm, Sweden Jan 4, 2002 The brewery’s flagship. A german style pilsener, dry and bitter. A good attempt, but the malt flavour isn’t just right.
