GreatLibations (1252), Sasquatcho, Arizona, USA Dec 4, 2007 Pours a dark dingey copper color like an old penny from the 60’s. A tall foamy head persists and sticks like a stubborn muledeer. After some coaxing the head comes down and rests as a thick, downy canopy. Faint dusty candy aromas speak in a Belgian tongue. Medium full nectar w/ ample mellow residual effers. The texture is soft and semi creamy. A full malty body and only mildly sweet w/ flavors of plumby stonefruit, grapes, melon, brown sugar, and gummy bears. Theres a slightly acidic spicey essence that charges through and balances it all out. The finish is bittered well leaving a spicey tingling on my tongue. A solid representation of the style and highly recommended. eaglefan538 (2039), Wilmington, Delaware, USA Apr 7, 2008 bottle from sl. nice full orangey brown, not as cloudy/murky as would thought. Very loud pop on opening. Huge head, great retention, good lacing. Aroma of oranges, some lemons even, coriander, caramel, dark fruits. Oranges, coriander, caramel, plum-like dark fruits, sweetness balanced by a yeast/bread, slight dryness in finish. airy full mouthfeel. delightfully one of the best dubbels i’ve had (and it’s not a style that has fancied me too much). ajm (304), USA Aug 15, 2008 Jeeze, what a powerhouse. Haltingly aromatic, with clouds of sublime fig, prune, malt and alcohol in the nose. Flavor is rich and thick with the above plus raisin and coffee. Texture is magically Belgian - hits the tongue and evaporates like lighter fluid. Big and very sweet. Nuffield (2536), Roseville, Minnesota, USA Jan 9, 2008 I thought this was fabulous--I need to get more. Notes of spice open up like Christmas presents in the laps of children, followed by a resonant hop note that builds and lends an air of surprise. A bitter end sticks around, all complicating the essential malty resonance of a wonderful dubbel--plenty of dark fruit, yeast, malty goodness. JK (2392), Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA Dec 21, 2007 Brewed at Het Anker, so of course it is going to be delicious. This is the best abbey style beer I had in some time. Lots of carbonation on this dark brown beer, very tall cream colored head. Thick and heavy palate, full of sweet malt, fruit, and Belgian yeast. I didn’t taste the herbs, but found this to be a more traditional, sweet, fruity malty beer. Nice smooth palate
